Can you work with PNG layer files on MEP2014 Premium?

Metallica4Life wrote on 10/6/2014, 6:33 AM

Hi friends,
I am looking to do a music blu-ray project this week using large set of green screen (6m x 6m).
I have been looking at ordering a virtual concert stage set to apply our footage to the stage etc..
The stage is constructed of PNG layering files, where you can modify certain stage props etc..
Does anyone know if MEP2014 Premium can accept layering files, and if it is suitable to place video objects behind/inbetween the PNG layers, or at least if there is a work around? Ive yet to do any tests as I am waiting for the green screens to arrive later this week, but I assume there is a way.

Any help much appreciated! :)

Dan.

Hi Dan,

I'm not sure that I understand what you want when you say "to apply our footage to the stage etc.." Are you trying to make a video to project on the screen while the band plays? Or are you just trying to make a video where you have filmed the band playing against a green screen and you want to have something else show in the green part?

By png layers, do you mean masks? See this thread about masks.

MEP2014 Premium and do masks, green/blue and alpha chroma keys.

Perhaps you could try explaining more.

Hi John mate,
thank you for the reply. I'm trying to resize the chroma key footage to the PNG stage file, which I know I can do,
but its the layering of the other PNG files/video elements. Ah yes amsking, thats something I'm not that familiar with having only used simple masking before. Thank you very much for the tutorial link, I shall take a look now,
having trouble now trying to add more than one of the 'fun' overlay pics/animations to the same still image.
Am trying to add a hairstyle effect, along with the 'cigar' and 'glasses' etc.. but in the timeline you can only add one at a time to the same pic/frame, so I thought to duplicate the same photo, and place one below every other track, with each effect filling in the gaps, but they cancel each other out :( ha ha. Is there a way of using them all together?

Hi Dan

I have found that if you place another photo temporarily in the timeline and add the overlay effect to that, then ungroup the resulting photo and overlay in the 2 or 3 tracks, then you can drag just the overlay to under your image with the other 'fun' overlay already applied. After just delete the temporary photo and superfluous objects in the other tracks. Then just adjust and position the new overlay by selecting it and dragging around using Size/Position.

You can get the overlay object to move with the video by Rt.Clicking the overlay object > Attach  to a position in the video > and follow the instruction prompts which appear.

Have 'Fun'.....
