Cannot Export MP4 at 16FPS in Movie Edit Pro 2018

agerholm wrote on 3/2/2018, 11:21 AM

I am using Movie Edit Pro 2018 Premium, and I have some old 8mm films that I am editing. The frame rate of the film is 16fps, and the movie settings in MEP have been set to 16fps and 4:3. But when I go to export the movie as an mp4 it will not let me export at 16fps. The export settings will allow me to type in the frame rate as 16, but as soon as I click "OK" it immediately reverts to 24. By experimenting, I found that I could set any frame rate at 24 and above, but nothing below 24 would take. Please tell me how I can export an mp4 at 16fps.

Hi

. . . . I have some old 8mm films that I am editing . . . .

How have these been digitised and is the framerate of the source video file 16fps?

. . . . Please tell me how I can export an mp4 at 16fps . . . .

AFAICS that is not possible.

IMO your best option is to export at 32 fps, it will give a bigger video file, however it is possible and should preserve any 16fps flicker.

The only issue you may have is with playback on some devices, however it is not possible to predict which.

Hi - and thanks for the reply. Yes, the 8mm film has been digitized frame by frame @ 20fps in mp4 format - and then the frame rate was changed to 16 in MEP. I have done this previously with no problem - using MEP MX (from 2012). The 2012 version will allow me to export an mp4 at 16 or 18 fps as needed. My last project was editing a Super 8 film and exporting at 18fps - in the old 2012 version. I was surprised that I could not do in the latest version of MEP something that I was able to do in a 6 year old version - and was hoping there was some kind of fix.
