@Housy

ASIO is a driver type designed to enable audio to be recorded on a Windows computer with minimal "interference" from the operating system.

Your BOSS GT-1 is an effects pedal for guitar. I've looked at the web page for it and can find no evidence that it has, or needs, an ASIO driver. Indeed, being the type of unit it is, I would be very surprised if it even needed one.

So, can you explain rather more about why you think the device is an ASIO device?

Tx Jeff.I have sorted out the driver issue.

Hi Jeff, actually the problem is not sorted. My MAGIX Plus Music Maker keeps freezing. From what you say above, can I use the BOSS GT-1 to record guitar directly into Magix? When connected, Magix allows me to use it as an ASIO device. But something is causing the software to hang intermittently, and not when taking the same action. I use a BOSS VE-2 vocal FX box as well with Magix and it hangs also. Am using a brand new Surface Windows 10.

Hi

. . . . surface pro 4 notebook . . .

Can you clarify this please - AFAIK there is no such device - there is a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (tablet with detachable keyboard), a Microsoft Laptop 3 or Microsoft Book 3.

Version 4 of the latter 2 are not due until 2021 and 2022 earliest.

@Housy

Hi

Thanks for the clarification.

Is the Surface laptop up to date for both firmware and software updates?

I suspect the hanging may be due to USB ports, either trying to switch between speed modes or disconnecting/reconnecting the Boss - I can find no information on the USB bus speed of the GT-1, however, given it release date, I would suspect it is USB 2.

Which USB port are you plugging the BOSS GT-1 in to? If it is in the type C port, try the type A port or, if you have a USB hub with USB 3 out, try connecting through that.

john, i have been plugging into the USB A port but via a Targus 4-port USB hub. i could try bypassing the hub and direct to the Surface USB A port - do you think that will matter?

HI

. . . . plugging into the USB A port but via a Targus 4-port USB hub. i could try bypassing the hub and direct to the Surface USB A port . . . .

It is worth trying, AFAICS the Targus is a USB 2 device for both in and out and may also be a cause of the issue.

Apart from that, I am stuck for a solution, which is also annoying for me as the Surface Laptop 3 is currently at the top of my list for replacing my somewhat old (ancient in computer life) laptop.

Have you been in touch with BOSS support?
