Changing video speed removes audio waveform from timeline

wongck wrote on 6/15/2018, 8:18 PM

Have seen this happening on my MEP standard.

When I change the playback speed of a video ( via Efffect > Speed) the waveform on the audio track goes missing. I use the waveform as a visual markers for me to fast-forward my video, skipping the non-dialog sections. But with the waveform not displaying, If I need to tweak the position, I cannot easily do so other than by listening.

Is this a normal behavior or I need to set some settings to see the waveform when my video playback speed changes.

@wongck

Hi

No problems here for changes between 0.25 - 4x normal speed, above 4x speed audio has to be detached - MEP v 17.0.3.177.

Which version of MEP 2018 are you on? If you put the following information in your profile signature then we do not have to ask for it:

  • Computer specification - processor make/model, graphics card or chipset make/model, audio card or chipset make/model, RAM,  hard drive configuration and sizes?
  • Windows version - press and hold down the Windows key and the R key - in the dialog that opens type in winver and press enter.
  • Software full name and version number - as found under Help, About . . .

Opps, sorry for not being specific about the issue.

If I change the speed for the entire video clip, it behaves like yours.

I uses keyframes to speed up partially the video, so 1st part is 2X and then it goes back to normal speed for the rest of it. After that the waveform are gone.

My MEP is 17.0.3.177.

The yellow highlighted is the video that 2 different speed and is without the waveform. The video before it has waveform as the playback speed is constant.

Hi

No problem, the disappearing waveform is normal behaviour when using a speed ramp and keyframes.

I think the audio waveform is, in effect, a still image which is why it does not disappear when you adjust a whole clip as I did.

Ok, Thanks John for clarifying. This has also been bugging me for years.
