I have Movie Studio Platinum 2022 and use it on Windows desk top. When I load video clips into a movie project they are very choppy even though they play smoothly on camera and picture files.

I am using video clips from a few sources including Downoaded video from Google Photos (originally recorded on new I-phone; also video from my Samsung S-21; plus M$4 files from my LUmix camera. .
Please look at this thread here and download mediainfo from the link provided to analyse one of your videos and check out @johnebaker great tutorial if you need assistance.
If your video is discovered to have a variable framerate, you will need to convert to constant framerate using converter Handbrake.
. . . . The graphics chip is integrated. . . .Four core processor eight threads. . . . .
The processor does have an integrated GPU, however there is also an R7 series of graphics cards, additionally the processor is 4 core with no hyperthreading, ie 4 threads - see here.
The true performance, you get with preview playback, depends on the source video resolution, effects applied and design elements such as collages and picture in picture that are applied to the video.
Looking at the specifications for the R7 series integrated and discrete GPUs, the R7 series are below the minimum specification for Movie Studio 2022 - an AMD RX 470 is the minumum requirement.
From the specifications for the R7 series, integrated or discrete graphics cards are rated for FullHD (1920 x 1080) resolution gaming. The R7 should give relatively smooth preview playback with video up to FullHD (1920 x 1080) resolution.
For 2.7K and 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) and HEVC (h.265) encoded video the choppy playback will increase as the resolution goes up, and if some of the video clips are, as @PATIENT-X suspects, variable framerate this may contribute to the choppy playback.
However the following should improve the performance:
Turn on Proxy file creation - the option is in the project settings, this will create lower resolution proxy files for playback and while editing - they are not used for the final exporting, the original files are used. The downside of proxy files is that they do require additional disk space, however once a project is completed the proxy files can be deleted. If you go back to the project at a later date the proxy files will be recreated.
Turn on the Lightning icon bottom right of the Preview monitor - it will be blue when on. This will enable a lower framerate and display resolution to enhance playback.
