CineStyle

Dear friends,

There is a image styler in Canon DSLR called CineStyle that boosts the dynamic range of the pictures in the camera.

Now the images appear flat i shoot and it is said that the colours can be played extremly well in post.

Now is MAGIX enough for CineStyle post or does it requires the big players like FCP and Adobe Premier for a good colour boost?

And what is the recommed one for DSLR ? (Auto, Standrad, Landscape, Monocrome etc etc)

Please suggest.

Regards.

Hi Anirban

The CineStyle effect is a colour profile used by the cameras image processor to process the sensor data giving a higher dynamic range and larger colour gamut.

AFAICS once this is done in the camera the effect cannot be removed and the final product dynamic range and colour gamut is entirely dependant on the viewing device or ink/paper combinations if used for photographs.

. . . . Now the images appear flat i shoot . . . .

That is the exact opposite of what is suppose to happen!

Personally I would shoot with the settings/styles that work best for you.

Hello John,

Thanks for your kind answer.

Perhaps I was not that clear. I want to knw if MAGIX is enough for colour grading when I shoot in CineStyle where the pictures appear dull. It is said that the pictures in CineStyle are like neutral and can be boosted exrremly well in post.

So is MAGIX enough compared to AP and FCP?

Regards.

Where is this said?

Can you post a short length of video shot in CineStyle then I can compare it to the other editting programs.

IMHO looking at the image you have posted below, shooting in CineStyle has effectively removed a lot od scope for adjustment - the image is flat and lacking contrast / colour.

Hello John,
Thanks for your kind mail. Here is an example of a shot that I shot yesterday with CineStyle. I belive that perhaps the colour will blow up in post prodction with MAGIX.

But sadly not that great.

Here is the original shot. Just wonder when everyone is going thrilled with the options for CineStyle shots in post, is MAGIX equally capable in this colour grading?

The first example is with CineStyle and the second one is colour graded with MAGIX.

Regards.

(NB: Kindly note that the videos are shaky and have not been edited except the colour)

Hi Anirban

Can you post the videos somewhere like Dropbox and then post the link to them - the ones below are not available.

Thanks

Hello John,
Thanks for your kind mail. Here is an example of a shot that I shot recently with CineStyle.
It is said that when one shoots with CineStyle the images are dull but they give options to play with colous in post-production.

Is MAGIX equally capable in this colour grading? Or are options merely for Adobe Premier and FCP because they have more options?

Regards.
