Computer freezes during export of long video.

Spad wrote on 3/22/2021, 12:36 AM

I've put together a long 4 hour music compilation with pictures, and fading transitions. Whenever I attempt to export the video (I've tried 3 times so far), after a unspecified amount of time, my entire computer will freeze, requiring a restart. I'm trying to export the video at 1080p at 30fps.

The project contains music, pictures, text, fading transitions, and one singular video (17s long, 247mb, 640 x 956, 50fps)

My specs are:
Windows 10 (Version 10.0.19042 Build 19042)
AMD FX-8350
Nvidia GTX 1060-6GB
16GB D1MM

Trying to export to a HDD with 2.5 TB of free space.

Hi Spad.

Assuming you are still using version MEP Premium 17.0.2.159, the first thing I will say is it is not fully compatible with Windows 10 as it was designed to run using Direct X 9 not 12. You are probably having to run using compatibility for Widows in the project settings.

It may have some functionality but may also not run as well as it should.

Having said that have you tried removing the video clip you mention and trying to export the project? You could save the project with the removed file under another name to retain your original project if it turn out the file is not causing the problem.

If it turns out the file is the problem I would suggest converting it in Handbrake first to the correct fps for the project because at present the the export would have to suddenly start binning a lot of frames as it jumps from 30fps to 50fps and that could be causing the freeze.

I'll try replacing the video with a picture instead and try exporting again..

In that case if you are using a laptop or a tower case which has a stock cooler on the CPU, the CPU could be overheating. That could also cause a crash. Keep an eye on the CPU temperature during export and see what temperature it reaches. Ideally you don't want a CPU to run at temperature above 86c for long periods. If it goes above 90c during export try pausing the export until the temperature drops back to normal before continuing and see if you can get to the end of the export.
