Crash when deleting or cutting scene

I'm a new user of the product, and have run into what appears to be a bug so fundamental that it's completely unusable.

Whenever I try to delete or cut a scene, the program crashes. Moving around the order of scenes also crashes. This happens in all views - storyboard, scene, whatever. It happens with every video that I've imported, whether it's my own video, or even something from within Magix's own Demo project. It doesn't matter how many scenes are in the project, whether it's the only one or there are many. But it happens *every* time.

The only exception I can find is when I open the Demo project. Any scene that's already in this project can be deleted. But if I try to add my own scene into this project, and then delete my scene or move it elsewhere in the storyboard, the program crashes. This might lead you to think that the problem is something with my own video files. But that can't be the cause because it also happens when I import files from the Demo. Also, I tried videos from three other sources, and the problem occurs in all cases.

My computer is running Win 8.1 with an AMD FX-8300 8-core processor and 8GB RAM.

Oh, I've got one other problem too. It's really annoying, but nowhere near the showstopper of the first one. If I allow playback to go past the end of the video, then afterwards all audio playback stops functioning. I have to save my work, close the program, and re-open it, and then it'll work again. But as long as I catch the playback, stopping before the end, this is fine. Like I said, this is really annoying, but since I can't do anything serious anyway due to the crash problem, this issue is secondary.

Almost impossible to suggest any reason for this without the information requested in this thread: http://www.magix.info/uk/please-do-the-following-before-posting-your-question.forum.621831.html

Hi, I downloaded Movie Editor pro Plus a few days ago, and I hated the program
as it continually kept freezing when I completed even the smallest task, I was about to give up on it,
as I downloaded it last year and it was the same, but I decided to try and sort it out, I was of the
opinion that the program could not be the issue two years in a row.
I usually read the user manual, but I opted to avoid doing this, as I wanted to try a logical problem
solving approach to my freezing up problem.
First off, I got rid of any programs, or drivers that could conflict with it,
then I removed any further rubbish from the windows registry, and de-fragmented my hard drive.
Then I set windows up to control the page file, which helped a lot.
The program was now running with the very odd freeze up when I would click play to review what I had edited.
I was making progress, then I looked more into the program set-up, and found some further tweaks, in the form
of, playing back my modifications in a lower resolution, and using the direct audio setting in program set-up,
direct audio helped me a lot, because I have conflicts between the sound card and a windows driver, when I
one time took windows advise and allowed windows to update my driver, it broke my audio, so I have learned to leave well enough alone in this regard, my audio works very will with reaper and now with MEP, and all other programs on my computer.

I am very happy with the few changes I made and their impact on Movie Editor Pro.
I have a low spec laptop, that is barley up to running this program, but I am more than happy with what I can now do, there is
no other program on the market that will run the features that Movie Edit Pro has on such a basic computer as mine.
Proxy settings are the real key to this, so make sure you are using the proxy settings, this allows the program to use a lower quality image for working on, which will be over written with the higher quality image when you are ready to produce the movie.
One last thing, there is a button at the bottom right of the preview screen, right click on this and select the top three choices,
this allows for smooth play back, the settings are self explanatory, and you can undo them one by one to see which is the most beneficial, then click this button on to use it to smoothly play back your video.

My laptop is dual core i5-3210 MOBILE processor, with only two threads, six gig of ram a slow hard drive, and windows 8.1,yet with the few simple tasks I performed, I was able to half the resources required to run this program.

I used the windows resource manager throughout my experimenting, and now my processor usage has gone down
from 48% to between 18 and 31%, usually nearer the 18%, my hard drive access has dropped to hardly anything,
and my memory usage has gone down from 48% to 28% max.
This program is very good at what it does, and thus it does need adequate resources, video editing is not like anyother task,

it takes its toll big time on resources, and thus after freeing up my computer, I am delighted with this
program, I am completely strapped for cash due to illness, but will be buying this as soon as I can afford it, there is
nothing else to touch it., and I have tried them all.

If I read the manual, I could have figured out how to use the program, but it was my own understanding of windows that ultimately lead to me being able to run it in the first place.
You might as well persevere with it, as other programs will give you similar problems, and maybe not similar results.
Do not let the lack of answers on the forum put you off, it seems to me that this product is very good hense the lack of activity on-line, these guys are smart, they know the program works, but it is impossible to cater for computer issues that prevent this.

Microsoft, they could pay no end of staff as they have no end of problems that need addressing, get my point.

Just remembered, this program seems to evaluate your computer when it starts up, so I deliberatley start my laptop, let it spin up and come to rest, I have no unwanted programs services or processes running either, then when all is sellted down, I start Movie Edotor Pro, this way the program sees all the free resources and seems to adapt to using them quite well in my experience,

I have another editing program still installed, and it has has bennefited in the exact same way from my adjustments to windows, the point being, neither program would run without freezing, which in turn lead me to correctly deduce that windows and my computer were the real problems.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards, john

Just looking at your spec, if you have a seperate graphics card, which it looks like you do, then perhaps the drivers need an update, I do not think there is any graphics capability on your cpu, but if there is, it is most always a better idea to turn it off, and let your dedicated graphics card do its job, there can be conflicts that can cause windows to stumble, even though do notalways  result in a windows failure cause your computers graphics capability to actually fall way below what the dedicated graphics card is capable of on its own, this problem is common.

Have you other software that can challenge your computer that may assist in diagnosing a weakness, such as a paint program opening large file, then open more files to see what happens. Or open a lot of videos in the likes of media player, and at the same time avs player, at the same time as rendering the graphs, just to see if there is a weak link somewhere.

Is your computer running cool, processor and graphics card.

Also use the windows resource manager to keep an eye on what resources are being used, at one point my resources were either quite high, yet when the most freezes happened, the processor was doing nothing, I would then look in the task manager and see that the program was not responding, though in my case, the program did not crash, just froze, and would wake up again, but it is much much better now.

Make sure your drivers and windows is up to date, also ensure quick time is up to date if you are working with qt movies, .mov, and the same for media player. You could also go in the opposite direction, if you think that an update has lead to your problem, which often happens, its all about learning to recognise when something has changed, I always test the programs I depend on after an update to ensure no big surprises occur when I don't need them.

Did you download and install all of the files under Help, Free addons? Did you update to the latest patch under Help. Update online?

You did not reply to the questions asked by emmrecs and we don't even know which version of MEP that you are using. Supply year and whether you have basic, Plus or Premium. If the two latter, this will be indicated at the very top left of the program.
