Crashes due to error in Modul "mxmpeg2_x64.dll" when previewing

DanTheMan wrote on 12/29/2018, 5:25 AM

Hi,

when previewing my project (e.g., by pressing the space bar) my Video Deluxe 2016 (as Movie Edit Pro is called in Germany) crashes every so often.

In this case, the program stops working and the following windows opens:

All buttons in this window are unresponsive as is the program itself. I have to end the program using task manager.

I'm running version 15.0.0.114 (UDP3) and I think I have all updates installed (at least there are no online updates available). The system is a XPS13 running Windows 10 1803. There's plenty of RAM (16 GByte) and disk space available.

How can I avoid these crashes?

Thanks and happy new year!

@DanTheMan

Hi

We have seen this issue several times in the past and it can be caused by one or more of the following:

  1. project audio bitrate setting is incorrect

  2. video clip bitrate is not the preferred 44.1 or 48 kHz

  3. the project has become corrupt

  4. VDL ini file has become corrupt

Solutions:

  1. Project should be set to one of the default audio bitrate options - the preferred is 44.1 or 48 kHz

  2. Use MediaInfo to analyse the source video clips on the timeline and check the audio bitrates, if any or all are not 44.1 or 48kHz.then they need converting

  3. Open VDL and select File, Load backup project - if there are backup files present they will appear in the dialog window, load starting with the latest date/time and working backwards until you find a good one and save the project with a different name.

  4. Open VDL and select File, Settings, Rest program settings to default . . . .

Thanks for you help and suggestions. I'll try.

On the other hand, I hope Magix follows these reports and improves their software.

Two comments on your statement;

  1. This is a user to user forum. Magix staff rarely participate, though they may, sometimes, read posts.
  2. Your version of MEP is now rather "old", the latest is 18.0.2.225 so it is highly unlikely that any attempt will be made to "improve" the version you have.

Hi Jeff @emmrecs,

Thanks for pointing this out. To make sure that Magix is aware of the issue, I also filed a support request. 😉

What you are basically saying is that, while they are not free, there are updates available. However, I wonder if an update would fix this issue as @johnebaker did not mention "update" as a solution.

@DanTheMan

I honestly don't know whether there are any updates to your version, but there are certainly (paid) upgrades.

It is clearly the best option to raise a support ticket. though whether Magix will be able to offer a solution, given the "age" of your version, is questionable, I think. 😇

Did you try the procedure that John EB listed?

@DanTheMan

Hi

. . . . version 15.0.0.114 . . .

This was the last patch before MEP 2016 ran out of support.

Versions 2017 onwards fully upgrades to the newest, ie replaces the previous version, once per year as long as you maintain a current subscription, with patches in between.

Stop the subscription and the program freezes at the version number when the subscription expires, you can continue using the program, unlike another competitors subscription scheme, however it will not upgrade to the newer version, there may be patches for it while it is still in support.

Thanks for you suggestions. In the meantime, support responded. They suggested to update the graphics driver. I have an integrated graphics solution (the one that comes with the i7 CPU). I had the impression, Windows Update would handle the updates of the graphics driver, too.

That being said, I had saved the project under a new name and continued editing. No more crashes so far. Funny...

It does however it is often behind the Intel updates - I prefer to use the drivers from Intel.
