Crashes when exporting video

Crashes (freezes, restarts program, or blue screens computer) exporting movies. I have tried many combinations of format (MP4, MPEG, AVI, Uncompressed) with various parameters (resolution, frame rate etc). Short simple videos of up to 2 mins seem ok, but anything longer or complex does not complete. Tried all combinations of the settings in the export dialogue in settings. Graphics card drivers are up to date. All worked well in previous years, but I have not had much success for the past 6 months at least (I don't use this often).

CPU often spikes to 100%. RAM is typically 50% and stable.

Movie Edit Pro Premium Version 18.0.3.261 (UDP), UG code 8437 KA3. Windows 10 (1809 build 17763.557), Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4Ghz, 64-Bit, 8GB RAM. GeForce GTX 670 (388.13)

Welcome to the Magix forums and thank you for the information about your computer.

Two possible answers to your question occur to me:

How much hard drive free space do you have and what type and speed is it? MEP exports have to be written to temp files as they are being created. It is possible your computer is simply running out of space to store the temp files, especially given your comment about exports longer than about 2 minutes failing.
Although 8GB RAM is "adequate" for most programs (and I note your comment about typically 50% and stable) I would personally consider 16 GB or more to be necessary for video editing.

In addition to Jeff's comments:

The CPU usage is normal for exports that cannot use Hardware Acceleration (HWA), as the drivers are up to date you may have lost HWA on the GTX 670 which takes load off the CPU.

There is another possible cause, besides Jeffs comment about disc space, the processor or memory chips are overheating - check the fans and processor heatsink are not caked in dust - if they are it is best to use compressed air (in a can, and definitely not the 'flammable gas' type they do go up in flames) to blow the fans and heat sinks clear and a vacuum cleaner to remove most of the airborne dust before it hits you.

I got home much earlier than planned. I think CPU heat is the answer. I didn't see much dust, but leaving the side off and letting more air flow, I have just completed two successful exports of a large project. Thanks folks

If your machine is getting that hot I would suggest replacing your heatsink with a better one or you risk damage to your CPU and seriously reducing the CPU's lifespan.
