Creating a new Text object?

grahamm7 wrote on 5/31/2020, 11:35 AM

I can't quite master using Text editor to create a new text object showing on my video etc. Mainly I am putting text lyrics to show on the images showing against an MP3 music sound track. So say track 2 images/video track 3 music (MP3) TRACK 4 text overlays. So I create the first overlay using T icon - say the title. Now I move the red pointer line further along the timelines. Double click the T icon but the red marker goes back to the title image? I want to create a new text overlay further along at a position where I want it (to point to it??). Probably at this stage don't want any fancy text types etc. I have looked a videos on You Tube and searched your tutorials. Read the User Guide. (Bear in mind I am using Magix Editor pro 2020 - many videos are for previous versions). Sorry to be a pain - I am a new user to Magix video editor pro. I used to use a Serif video editor - not really supported etc. So I have purchased this great video editor and am fighting my way in.

Hi Graham and welcome to the Movie Edit Pro User forum.

There are lots of ways to do this but try this to begin with.

Highlight your first text box by right clicking on it and select copy. Next place your time cursor to where you want to place the next text. Right click again and select paste. Then go to the text editor and change the wording. It will not effect your previous text box.

This is the way I worked it out. But if one moves the red pointer line with a triangle to a new position and presses the T (text) icon is says Please select an existing title object in order to use this dialog or create a new object?? Also I find it always creates a new title on the track below the video track. But I usually put my music track below the video and then the text/title track below that. As I found by experience the image needed to be below the video track and never above it. So I tend to put the text/title track at the bottom. Maybe I should put the music track as the lowest track. But then sometimes the video has been recorded with audio. I then split them into 2 seperate tracks. The new text object jumps onto the audio track. Ok no big sweat I just drag it onto the correct track. I am trying to understand how this works (how the app alogrithims work). Not easy to pick up from the manual or some of the You Tube videos. They usually want to show a fancy dynamic type font. Not show first how to do the basic and then develop from that. Maybe I am a bit slow or something on the uptake. But thanks for your response. I will continue to try and master this excellent video editor.

Hi

. . . . Maybe I should put the music track as the lowest track. But then sometimes the video has been recorded with audio. I then split them into 2 seperate tracks. . . . .

There is no need to do this.

To specify which track the titles are added to click a blank area of the track header so it turns blue

all titles added from the Template tab will go to the selected track at the timeline cursor position when using the 'add' button

.

A quick method of duplicating a title object, after setting its position and size, is to hold down the Ctrl key while dragging the title object with the mouse ( Ctrl+ drag ), this is particularly useful if you are copying the text from a document into the title, you do not have to keep copying the title object again and the titles will all be in the same position.

If I move th pointer to a postion then go to fonts and templates and say use Alex Brush I get a text object which says Alex Brush but the Font is Arial? When I watched a video of this if I use the template say Alex Brush the font type should be Alex Brush. I thought with Video Editor Pro Premium I would have these fonts? Maybe I need to load them or install them? As far as I know I installed the app correctly. I paid for Magix Video Editor Pro Premium. Would be nice to use some of these Basic font templates such as Cabin Stretch etc...

Hi Graham.

I just tried this out on my MEP project and got Alex Brush.

I do know others in the past have said something similar. John CB I think also suffered something similar.

With reference to that apparently "missing" font, when you first installed and registered the program did you also download and install all the additional content that would then be available for the Premium version?

Hi Graham, Jeff.

Hi Jeff.

your prompt made me look up Graham's version specs. MEP Pro has less Title Templates than Plus or Premium so may be missing Alex Brush.

Hi

. . . . Alex Brush I get a text object which says Alex Brush but the Font is Arial? . . .

Using Windows File Explorer open the C:\Windows\Fonts folder - do you see Alex Brush there - if so it is installed and you are experiencing an unusual hiccup with the title editor that I have seen happen (rarely fortunately).

With the Alex Brush title on the timeline deselect the text if it is already selected and select it again change the font to Baby Kruffy - we just need to see a big change in the font.

If it changes reselect the text and change it to Alex Brown.

The version I paid for was: movieeditpropremium2020 Magix Video Editor Pro Premium. I may not have installed all the other stuff but I then went to Install Extra Content and installed every tick box : Travel Maps: Demo; Design Elements 1 & 2; DVD Menus; Fade Effects; Templates 1 & 2; Sound Tracks; Premium Titles INT. That last one I would have thought would have the title template fonts?? Restarted App but when I select say one of the fonts such as Cabin Sketch it creates a text with the words Cabin Sketch as the text and uses Ariel? Wouldn't think I would have to do a restart?? So I am not getting these Font Title templates that are shown.

grahamm7 wrote on 6/1/2020, 11:28 AM

Looked in Windows/Font directory and there is no Alex Brush or Cabin Sketch etc.?? If that helps

grahamm7 wrote on 6/1/2020, 11:28 AM

So how do I install these missing fonts??

johnebaker wrote on 6/1/2020, 11:51 AM

@grahamm7

Hi

You can download the Alex Brush font from here and Cabin Sketch here - you will get 2 Zip files.

Open the zip files with File Explorer and right click the .ttf file - it has the name of the font if you cannot see the file extension - and select Open .

In the dialog that opens select the Install button - you may need to confirm the next dialog if you get one

Just to reconfirm, did you download and install everything under Help, Install extra content, then on that screen Download additional content (or something like that)? There is a lot to download and install.

Under Templates tab, Title Templates, Fonts Basic, you should have about 110 choices, including Alex Brush and Cabin Sketch.

Can you give us a screen shot of what you see under this template?
