Crop video images at start or end of scenes

Hello,

I have 'digitized' some old 8 mm films with DVcamera and projector. I use an old Laptop with an older version of MEP for this job. The video is transferred directly 'on the fly' from camera to PC via Firewire, to an external HD without using tape. In most of the scenes the first 1 or 2 frames are overexposed, giving a glimpse, and I want to cut away these frames automatically. The files are AVI (DV-AVI)

I have recently installed MEP 2014 Premium, ver 13.0.2.8 on a new stationary PC with WIn7, and will use this for the editing. In Program settings Video/ Audio you can Crop videos, a number of images at start and/or end (of scenes ?). But how to activate this function ??  I have tried Scene detection, without success.

Thank you in advance for any answer, in english or german.
Andreas

Andreas,

New I think to MEP 2014 is a setting under 'File' >> 'Settings' >> 'Program' >> 'Video/Audio' tab to crop video any number of images from the start or end.

Regards,

Carl

Hi Andreas

You need to set this up in program settings prior to dragging the clips to the timeline, however if the file is one big file that needs to be scene detected into separate clips then I am not sure. You may have to scene detect and save as takes then delete the timeline objects and drag the takes back in. Worth a try.

This was new in MEP2013 and is invaluable to me.

Thanks to Carl and Peter, and Merry Christmas !

I had set MEP 2014 to crop 2 frames at start. I followed Peter's advice, after dragging the AVI-file to Timeline, I performed Scene detection and saved as Takes. But opening a new project with the Takes did not alter anything. The cropping did not work.
Is the function only intended for new systems, where each scene is saved as an independent file ? It seems so.

Regards,

Andreas

Merry Christmas to you too Andreas.

That is as I suspected also.
