Simplest is to be in 'timeline' not 'storyboard' mode, position the playback cursor at one end of your section and hit the [T] key to make a cut. Position the cursor at the other end to make the second [T] cut and then select the piece and hit [Ctrl+Del] to delete the section and close the gap.

MEP provides several other tools including multiple cut styles and object trimmers. Do a search for 'trim' in the help file for more options.

If you go to the 'Title' tab you will find quite a list of animated presets:

Exactly what's there will depend on your MEP version eg proDAD comes with 2014 Premium. For some templates, you can further customize by going to the 'General' section and make changes in its window:

For tutorials, have you looked at the tutorials section of this page? Yes, many are in German or French, but often you can get the general idea by watching the video and simply trying. If you bomb out simply delete and try again. If you get something you like do a right click on the title object and choose 'Save as title template...'.
