dark picture, Magix Video Saver 2023 version.

I recently upgraded to Magix Video Saver the 2023 version.

Unfortunately ever since I upgraded my Magix the footage I capture from my video player is darker than I'd like it to be. Sometimes it's really bad and then I try and try again by cleaning the vcr, eject and insert the tape again etc and after a while of this I usually get an acceptable brightness level, but overall it's not as bright with the new video grabber as I like it to be and how it was when I used Magix in the past, with the previous video grabber. Any idea what could be the issue? It's very frustrating to have to check the brightness on every video I digitalize when I never had to do this in the past. (There were other issues with the previous version and grabber, and I was advised to upgrade).

Gday Stefan, it is conceivable that different types of grabber have different default settings, and that, combined with your VCR, could well produce a darker image. I do a lot of VHS transfers and almost always need to adjust the brightness and contrast for each tape, and sometimes each scene.

I don't have that grabber specifically, but they are all pretty much the same: you can get access to the brightness and contrast controls in the grabber's "Proc Amp" by clicking on the "Hardware and Drivers" button, then eventually the device settings screen looking like this:

Adjust the brightness and contrast to your liking, but make sure you don't "blow out" the whites with the contrast: you want them "light" but not pure white so you don't lose detail.
