Deinstall current Movie Edit Pro before Installing next version?

I work with Movie Edit Pro 14 Plus and am soon going to upgrade to Movie Edit pro 17 Plus.  I'm mainly interested in the 24p and HDV functions of the newer version.

My Laptop PC runs Vista Ultimate 32 bit.  It's a Duo Core machine.

In order to install MEP 17 Plus, is it better to first uninstall MEP 14 Plus?

I suppose you can't just install the new version over the old one?

Any other tips on getting it working really well?

Seamus.

Seamus,

I've never had any problems leaving older versions as they are. Each one is not so much an 'upgrade' but rather a complete new program*. The only real upgrades are the occasional patches that get applied and are reflected in the interal verson number ('Help' >> 'About...') which bears no relation to the product names eg my MEP14+ is version 7.5.2.12! You might get a warning message if you try to run two versions at the same time but that is mainly in regards to accessing video capture hardware.

Version 14 is still on my machine mainly as a reference for answering forum questions. I'd suggest you keep MEP14+ available as you are going from .MVD to .MVP format and you might like to revisit an old project without having to import it into 17+.

*Down side of these version changes not being upgrades is that there is generally no discount pricing from Magix.

Regards,

Carl

Thanks Carl,

Especially for that tip about 'going from .MVD  to .MVP format'.  I won't be in a hurry to deinstall MEP 14 Plus!
