Disable ''Create waveforms during import'' :: Any negative effect?

Apollo89x wrote on 12/4/2021, 12:22 PM

Quick question-

I find it very annoying that Magix creates a .HDP + a .HO file every time I export a video;
But have discovered that if I disable waveforms being displayed, that only creates a .HDP (so 1 less file to keep deleting).

So I've unticked the box ''Create waveform during import'' - However just wanted to check & confirm that this won't have any impact at all on the actual audio in my videos?

@Apollo89x

Hi

It will have no impact on the video.

Are you regularly deleting them, or only when the project is finished, for backing up purposes ?

If for backing up purposes, I use Syncback for backing my projects to backup drives at regular intervals, and have set it not to copy any of the temporary files that MEP create once the project is finished I remove from the working data drive.

BTW - Magix is the company name not the program.

Ok thanks.

But no I just delete them, as their 'production' is extremely annoying and clogs up my folder.

@Apollo89x In your folder right click 'Group by Type' then collapse that group.

None of my folders use the ''group by'' feature to start with.

What system are you on, there'll be an option?

How do I sort a file type on Mac?

1. In Finder open up the folder you would like to sort by kind (file type).

2. Click the Action button (gear icon).

3. Choose Show View Options.

4. Set Arrange By to None.

5. Set Sort By to Kind.

@Former user

. . . . How do I sort a file type on Mac? . . . .

Is this relevant to the issue?

He hasn't filled in his signature, Windows or Mac, i suggested right click & Group by for Windows but the reply was 'None of my folders use the ''group by'' feature to start with', That seems to be the way to do it for a Mac,🤷‍♂️

I remember a similar post a little while ago so looked it up https://www.magix.info/us/forum/how-to-stop-magix-creating-a-magix-sounds-hdp-file-with-every-export--1244989/?page=2#ca1542631 It was his post.

He's wanting to put those extra files in a folder/container, or as in this case wanting to stop them altogether, i was just offering an option,

This is what i do (as i assume MEP creates those files for a reason) & just select that grouped drop down to delete that group, it's not hard.

@Former user

Hi

Thanks for the clarification on how 'MAC' appeared in the post.

I agree grouping is one way of getting rid of them quickly, I assumed 'None of my folders use the ''group by'' feature to start with' meant that they set as 'normal' without grouping.

. . . . He's wanting to put those extra files in a folder/container, or as in this case wanting to stop them altogether, i was just offering an option, . . .

This, as has been commented, is not possible, MEP does not have a dedicated 'scratch disk' for the temporary files created.

. . . .  i assume MEP creates those files for a reason . . . .

It does, the .HDP file contains the small images you see in the video object and the .H0 files is the waveform data for audio ie the displayed waveform.

Without the files the images and waveforms would have to be recreated on every load of a project and that would result in posts saying the projects are slow to load!.

@johnebaker Hi,

Yep, i accept they are part of the system, I hide them in the groups as mentioned, delete that group easily with 2 clicks when done & even in folders with many files it's not a problem, the files are very small 👍🤷‍♂️👍
