Draft tutorial - Getting started in MEP

UPDATE - Tutorial has now been posted so I am removing the link that was below and here is the new link.

I have finally gotten around to completing a tutorial on getting started in MEP using 2015 Plus/Premium. Most of the tutorial discussed the things that new users need to know, like the Free download, Online update, Help - where the manual is and that they should read it, other tutorials including those produced by Magix and those in this Community forum, how to Pose a question in the forum, Program and Movie settings, description of the 3 main windows, naming project and movies, and finally bringing objects into the movie in Storyboard mode and exporting. I wanted to bring this in at under 15 minutes, but ended up with 16. The goal is to cover most of the questions that we get from new users. Just refer them to the tutorial and then they can come back with more specific questions.

If any of you have time, I would appreciate a review to make sure that I haven't made some silly mistakes. I noted a few things that could be better, but usually one does not see all of one's mistakes.

I would like to send this tonight for posting, and I can always post an updated version.

I'll leave the video posted until the tutorial has been posted under Tutorials.

The next tutorials will be Using Movie Templates, including:

  • Basic template - tools
  • Multiple templates (movies) in one project
  • The trick to be able to edit the template by exporting and importing in timeline mode
  • Using only the separate template elements to create a movie.

and Basic Editing Part 1 which will go a bit further using the timeline mode and include:

  • Importing a range
  • Tools for importing (automatic, ripple, overwrite, exchange)
  • Cutting, trimming, deleting
  • Moving using the 3 mouse modes
  • Object grid (magnet for snapping)
  • Object handles
  • Track buttons
  • Where is audio? Show audio on separate track
  • Group/Ungroup
  • Right mouse button context menus.

Please let me know if I have missed something that a user at this level would need to know. Part 2 will get more advanced and discuss fades/transitions, titles, Effects - Size & Position only, and PIP (object overlays) and maybe backgrounds. Part 3 will go further and may include more effects, keyframing, multiple movies, chapters and basic Burning. Then we'll see if I have enough stamina for more.

Thanks,
