photo story on dvd 2013 deluxe on windows 7, acer monitor.
when I view my photos on the monitor they are sharp, however, when I burn them ( to dvd-r) the quality has degraded, any advice on improving quality of finished product would be appreciated.

This is normal when viewing standard DVD video on a hi res monitor or TV - DVD is 720 * 576 pixels and your screen is much higher resolution.
The end result is when viewing DVD standard video on a hi-res screen the image is of lower quality.
Playing DVD on a HD TV also suffers from the same result and is very dependant on the upscaler in the player or TV for achieving a good quality image
For maximum quality, in the burn settings, set the Bitrate to maximum, if the video will then not fit on a disc Photostory will tell you so and ask to adjust the Bitrate.

Please don't! You should never use maximum bitrate when burning DVDs, many players will run into trouble! Bitrate shouldn't exceed 8000, so use the standard settings instead! Higher bitrates will not result in improved quality!

Can you clarify please.
The DVD standard requires all players to be able to play a disc with the Bitrate of 10000 maximum.
MEP only allows a maximum of 8000 (Intel HD codec) and 9500 (Main Concept codec) both of which are within the requirements of the standard.

Reality is different... I've seen numerous problems related to high bit rates, especially when using cheap players. In the german part of this forum, we always warn users not to use high bit rates...
