DVD image creation error - can't read from video asset to append menu

Hello,

I made a movie that is 1 hr 37 min long and consists of cell phone pics/vids, GoPro video and high quality images. While editing, the program did crash once with this message, "Error in module "Videodeluxe.exe" [Load address: 0x00400000] to address 0x00bc2cea Exception 0xc0000005 "ACCESS_VIOLATION". This happened when I tried to copy/paste 9 pages of text from Microsoft Word into a rolling credits text box. I was able to access the backup of the project to complete it.

Everytime I try to burn the movie onto a dvd, after around 4.5 hours, when the project is at Total process: cut 4 of 5, I get this error: "mda reports DVD image creation error: 840007e6"

I opened up the log file to get the more detailed explanation of "MDA reports error 0x840007e6 - can't read from video asset to append menu" which then led to "failed with errNo 5 - encoding failed"

The movie was a little over the 4.7 GB my DVD+r could hold, so I lowered the bitrate so that it could fit. Still, I got the same disc image error. I tried lowering the bitrate/quality a little more to allow more free space, and the same thing happened again but after a longer amount of time. Then I bought some 8.5 GB DVD+rs in the hopes that would allow plenty of room and I could keep a higher quality, but it keeps happening. I tried burning another similar movie I made that was just 55 minutes to see if it was a burner issue, but it had no problem creating a disc image and finalizing.

I am using Magix Movie Edit Pro 2013, on my Gateway laptop I got in 2013 that now has 53.3 GB free of 448 GB in drive C. My operating system is Windows 8.1. (I realize everything is old and overloaded...I'll need to rectify that soon but would really appreciate problem solving for this very important project!)

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

Hi,

In a spirit of experiment, you might try rendering the video in two or more smaller parts, then combine and burn using Imgburn rather than MEP’s built in burner.

@Autumn

Welcome to the Magix forums.

Yes, that software and hardware is "old" but, in addition to what @terrypin wrote, I wonder whether you have enough free hard drive space to adequately temporarily store the quite large files that are created as the project is being exported?

@Autumn

Hi

When you attempted to burn the disc after the first time, which options did you select in this dialog that appears

Try burning again and when the above dialog appears check both Rewrite options and Encode all.

I would advise the following:

  1. Use branded DVD-R discs they cause less issues then DVD+R - I use Ritek full face printable and Verbatim disks

  2. Get a couple of DVD-RW discs, I use Verbatim, for initial burns and then when the DVD is as you require - you often find that there are small changes to be made once viewed on a big screen - use ImgBurn to copy the RW disc to permanent disc - saves money and finding a use for the coasters.

Thank you everyone for responding so quickly!

terrypin - I will try your suggestion. I've never used Imgburn before, but looks like it's freeware I can download and use. I've edited my DVD main and sub menus in Magix to line up with the multiple chapters. Any way I can keep that while using Imgburn?

Jeff - That is very possible, and if these next attempts don't work I may have to somehow move everything to another computer!

John - Each attempt, I have always checked both rewrite options and encode all. Sounds like Imgburn is worth a shot, also thanks for the DVD suggestions!
