DVD menu help

Hello everyone, I am using MEP 2016 & 2017 on two different computers and wondering if anyone can help with some DVD menu queries I have.

Firstly, how do you link the finished video back to the first page of the menu? Mine seems to finish then go back to the last menu page. Cant seem to work out how to change it?

Secondly, is there a way to design a menu and chapter points but export as a file to use on a USB stick? Basically doing a complete DVD with the menu and chapters but instead of burning to a disc and playing on a DVD player, exporting to a USB stick and plugging that direct into the side of a TV?

Lastly, and not actually to do with DVD menus, but what is the best way to get smooth slow motion on the editor? Im filming 1080/50i on a sony AVCHD video camera and want to slow parts of the footage down to 30% speed but keep it smooth. Any ideas how? I dont need the sound as it will be over music.

Any help would be great.

Hi

. . . . . how do you link the finished video back to the first page of the menu? . . . . .

At the end of the video the player, software on computer or disc player should automatically return to the menu home page. MEP does not have any functionality where you can change what happens at the end of the movie.

Have you made any changes to the menu page(s), eg added any extra buttons etc?

Which menu template did you use?

. . . .  is there a way to design a menu and chapter points but export as a file to use on a USB stick . . . .

No and yes - you cannot have a menu in an exported file, this is for DVD and BD players only, however it is possible to have a file contain chapters, the catch is you have to:

  1. use 3rd party software to insert these
  2. use a video file format that supports chapters eg mp4 or mkv
  3. use a player, ie software, that will recognise the chapter information, video and play it.

There is another possibility - when you come to burn the video in MEP, do not insert a disc in the DVD/BD drive, start the burn process, the process should render the video, menus and chapter menus, then prompt for a disc to be inserted, cancel the dialog and burn. Using Windows Explorer locate the disc image,it should be in a folder called Disc images in the default location where MEP project files are located, that has been created and copy the entire contents to USB drive.

You can then play the DVD from the USB device on a PC with software such as VLC and get menu/chapter functionality, also some DVD players or smart tv's will also play the USB device correctly.

Note: do not have any other files on the USB device, they may cause issues.

. . . . what is the best way to get smooth slow motion on the editor . . . .

You must use the Effects, Video Effects, Speed effect, rather than just stretching the video object, the Speed dialog has a check box Interpolate intermediate images, by selecting this you can slow down the video get smooth playback - I have had successful results with 1/10 normal speed by removing the audio portion of the video clip.
