Edges being cut off on DVD production when played on widescreen TV's

I am using Movie Edit Pro 17

I recently created my first production (so I'm a newbie). When I would render as an .avi or other format and play on my pc, the movie looked fine. When I rendered it to a DVD and played it on 2 different widescreen HDTV's, the edges were cut off...so much so that the end credits were unreadable. All video appeared to be zoomed in. I guessed at different formats, aspect ratios and encoding methods, but it all turned out this way.

How do I fix this?

Is it possible that your HDTV was in full zoom? Try changing the setting on your tv.
