Hi

Magix movie edit pro 2014 plus with latest patches

On my latest project I am having problems exporting out to mp4 file. It can run for 70mins and then crashes with no warning, turning of PC. On restart it shows a file, but when you try to openit it makes the PCcrash again.

I have checked all drivers I, have a 3 ghz processor, 4gb ram memory, I have put windows 7 onto ssd hard drive.

Any thoughts?

David

Hi

Is MEP patched up to the latest version?

Is the video HD?

. . . . I have put windows 7 onto ssd hard drive . . .

What size is the SSD drive?

Are you saving the mp4 to the SSD drive or a second hard drive?

What is the full specification of your computer and is the Windows 7 32 or 64 bit?

John

Hi John

Thanks for getting back so soon.

MEP has latest patch on.

Video is taken on sony camcorder to tape then to PC as .avi file.  I am trying to export as mpeg-4 file

PC data is as follows:

Win 7 32bit. Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II x 2 processor. Ram memory 4GB, 3GB available. Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5400 series. Gaming graphics: 3327MB

Primary hard drive: Kingston 240GB SSD with 93GB free.

Seperate sata hard drive for storage of videos files.

Further comments: Up toMmarch 2014 I have only used Pinnacle studio products.  I was on studio 17.5 At first studio 17 was great at exporting , as more patches were issued I started to have problems where the PC would crash intermittently. In February 2014 I purchased MEP plus as I wanted to do mulit-cam projects, I found MEP was even faster then Studio 17 so started to use it more as the main software.  Then I started to get similiar problems to studio 17.5.  I have taken off studio 17 in case it was clashing with MEP, I have just left pinnacle video driver on as I am using the internal caputure card from Pinnacle and was not sure how MEP would connect to capture card if I took it off.  I am having no problems with the editing side of MEP and have exported some 2 hour DVD's

Hi

Thanks for the good info - leads to more questions   :-

. . . . PC as .avi file . . .

Presumably capturing using the Pinnacle capture card, at what resolution and framerate?

. . . export as mpeg-4 . . . .

What settings are you using and do you have either or both of the following options checked:-

  1. Hardware acceleration for mpeg4 / AVCHD if possible - in the programs settings Video/Audio tab

  2. Calculate video effects on GPU in the mp4 export dialog

I have found if you have both checked this can crash MEP during export.

Hi John

Answers as follows: I capture on the Sony camcorder at 16:9.  When moved to PC it is at 25fps and is a .avi file.

"Hardware acceleration for mpeg4 / AVCHD if possible - in the programs settings Video/Audio tab".  Answer I did not check any off these.

Part 2 I did activate the "calculate video effects on GPU" though.

As I have a project to finish where I need to produce 50+ DVD's for a fundraising group to sell. I have had to take more drastic action.  Using the spare sata hard drive after I transferred the data to the SSD drive I reformatted it and installed a clean copy of Win 7 and loaded only software  programes relevent to it being used only for video editing and DVD production.  Software includes Magix MEP + as the only video editing software.  I am please to say so far I have exported and produced a DVD without any crashes.  I hope by keeping it stream lined if I get any problems in the future it will be easier to identify and rectify.  I am making more use of restore points a well, so at least I can go back to a stage where all things are working.

So many thanks for your prompt reply, suggestions and help.

Regards

David
