In older versions, I was able to "Edit wave files externally". Now the menu item described in the User Manual is no longer listed under edit audio (right-click on audio). Did this get removed from this version (18.0.1.89)?
It does not show up under the audio function menu either and according to the user manual there is not a keyboard shortcut. Just spent 2 hours looking for it.
I have just checked my copy of VPX 11 and it is not there either. Never noticed before. You are correct, it is not listed in the manual either. It still exists in Movie Edit Pro 2021.
We discussed this several times. Here is one of them. Read through page 4 and maybe some of the others.
This has been on my bug list for a few years, actually dating back to tickets raised in 2015.
See my new tutorials, as John EB pointed out.
If you are using proxies, Edit Wave Externally shows up. If not, you have to do a mixdown and then Edit Wave Externally will show up. You can limit the mixdown to a clip by using Solo and a range.
I think it did the time we were discussing it last. It would not be my normal workflow though as you may recall. I would normally only adjust levels or add a limiter on the output working within VPX or MEP.
OK - I was able to get the prompt to show by following the video. When I clicked on prompt it would load the app but not load the audio file into the app. I have decided that it is much easier just to edit audio in Adobe Audition (has video review). Then I just drag the result into VPX. Perhaps I should take the time to learn how to better use Adobe Premier, as well as I have learned to use VPX or MEP (since 2007). It would be a shame if these products go the way of Pinnacle (my first video editor). Perhaps the purchase of Vegas has distracted Magix from maintaining excellence in all of their products. This is not the German engineering/support I am used to.
Feel free to link to this when you raise a ticket with Magix. If no one complains, nothing gets fixed.
The current version of VPX/MEP is trying to load the HDP file instead of the wave files, which only the 3 programs mentioned in the tutorial can do - SFACL, Samplitude, SFAS12. There may be more.
Actually, the last time Edit Wave Externally worked properly (it still does) was when VPX was linked to Audio & Music Lab Premium as the external audio editor.
As for linking to Music Maker, I haven't tried that as the external audio editor as I really only was looking at programs that do cleaning and mastering, not dubbing. Look at the Share part in the tutorial and you'll see that using Music Maker works differently with MEP, but Share is not available in VPX for some strange reason. I asked about this once and was told that it was there. I gave up.
For any audio editors that don't work as per my tutorial, the easiest way is to do a mixdown, which creates the wave file. Open that in your audio editor of choice, edit it, and save it with a new filename, like appending r1 or something. Import that overtop of the old one in VPX. That way you have the old and new versions.
SFACL, SFAS and Samplitude can import videos, so you can do an export of part or all of the project and open that in the audio editor, edit, save just the audio, and import back into VPX, replacing the audio or adding to it as I did using Music Maker in the tutorial.
So, I suggest that you raise a ticket with Magix about Edit Wave Externally not working properly, not working at all with certain programs because it's trying to open the HDP file, not the WAVE file, and ask to add Share to VPX like in MEP. As well, ask for an easy way to update the wave image without having to delete the H0 file and restarting the project.
Here is a link to the bug list if you want to use part of my text. I really should update and resubmit the list, as it's well out of date.
