Effect applied to a grouped set of objects skips some objects

Basel-Shishani wrote on 8/17/2020, 5:24 AM

I have some dozen cuts of the same clip on one track. When I group all the cuts then select the group and apply an effect (Section or Size/Position), one or two of the cut objects are not affected. The skipped cuts can be different on different attempts, and on some attempts it works and the effect is applied to all the grouped objects.

This looks like buggy behaviour, but I should mention that I'm just starting to learn the software and I assume this is the right way to apply the operation.

Version: Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium 19.0.2.58

EDIT:

Thanks for the answers. I'm getting more familiar with this and I think what was confusing me is this behaviour that when the effect is being previewed, there is the one cut with strong yellow colour that is the one clicked on when first selecting the group, and the software does not show the effect of preview on this particular cut but rather shows it in the original movie state while showing the rest of the cuts with the effect applied. This manifests consistently with the 'Section' effect. It could be the case that this is a preview only problem and that the effects get consistently applied to all the cuts at the end.

[I"m not even sure why they show this difference in the yellow colour in group objects, if it's not signifying any difference between the cuts then why is it there?!].

Hi and welcome to the forum.

. . . . . I group all the cuts then select the group and apply an effect (Section or Size/Position), one or two of the cut objects are not affected. . . .

Try the following method before grouping the objects

  1. Select the first object and make the size & position changes

  2. Press the - (minus key on the top row of the keyboard)

  3. Select the option you want to copy

  4. Select all the other objects to have the same effect and press Shift and - to paste the effect(s) into the selected objects.

  5. The selected effects should now be the same for all clips.

  6. Group the objects if required.

Note when you paste the copied effects in step 4 only those effects selected in step 2 will be pasted, other effects that may be applied to clips are not affected

Hi,

Further to what John EB said, I advise against copying Section (haven't tried) because a Section is a cropping. If you want each image or video cropped the same, fine, but this is usually not the case. Also, Section settings cannot be keyframed; again, it's a crop.
