Effect fades puzzle

terrypin wrote on 12/5/2014, 4:10 AM

Experimenting, I placed two JPGs on the timeline and applied Fades > Effect fades > Particle. Then I deleted the sound effect in track 6. To my surprise, the video effect disappeared too! It was replaced by the standard Crossfade.

Same with the other 'Effect fades' I tried.

Or for better quality: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4019461/MEP-FadesPuzzle.jpg

I'm curious how that's possible? The work-arounds were to either reduce its volume or duration to zero. But in practice I may also have other material on track 6 at that position, complicating things.

Greetings from the Great White Frozen North,

It's -14C out there, but my coffee is hot!

Terry, the fade visual and audio are grouped. Simply click on the audio, ungroup, delete the audio file, done. The visual is still there.

Hi John,

Thanks, that's it.

What indicator am I missing that shows it as grouped?

--------------------

We think it was cold here yesterday when it dropped below 3 C, so -14 sounds borderline lethal!

Hi Terry,

Indicator: You just have to know.

Interestingly, if you move the wave object, the visual effect is lost immediately and the fade becomes a Crossfade, but the wave remains. As well, moving the wave completely out of the fade zone causes the fade to become a Crossfade and this shows up on the list. Move the wave back into the fade zone and there is no indication on the list of the type of fade upon clicking the fader box. Moving the wave back to the initial location does not bring back the visual effect.

@Peter,

Normally, that is correct. In this case, the visual part does not show up, only the wave object, as the visual is buried in the transition..

Also see my screenshot showing only the video clip highlighted. Hence my question!
