Encoding failure

rickduley wrote on 1/9/2022, 2:58 AM

Movie Edit Pro (19.0.1.31) encoding failure twice.

My machine is Intel QuadCore i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz, 32 GB RAM, running MS Windows 10 Home v. 1803, build 17134.228 on an MSI B75MA-P45 motherboard with a SAMSUNG SSD main drive.
It has RealTek High Definition Audio and a SAMSUNG U28D590D VDU driven by an NVIDIA QUADRO K620 Video Card.  There is a Logitech C930 webcam and I have Windows Defender as Anti-virus with Firefox and Skype running in the background.

What is wrong?

How to fix?

Thanks

@rickduley Hi, if you click on your icon at the top - My Profile, then put all that info about your machine in My Signature, it will show at the bottom of your comments & you won't have to write it each time you post 👍

@rickduley That Graphics card you have is only 2GB, I know mine is more powerful but in this pic it shows that the Graphics card does most of the work encoding, the CPU & RAM aren't doing anything much

It's similar on playback, the GPU does most of the work,

see here where i've stacked a few clips, the CPU & RAM aren't doing anything

This pic is exporting that clip with added media, again the Graphics card does most of the work, try turning off all other things like Skype & webcam, etc.. see if that reduces how much GPU is used, to allow more space for MEP to work.

Hi Rick.

First, if it were me, I would go to the nvidia website and search physically for the latest driver for your nvidia card. If it is out of date that could be the problem. Do not rely on automatic updates to give you the latest driver for that card. It does not seem to happen as we have seen this on other topics in the past.

Once checked and installed (or not depending on if you have the latest driver) and you still have problems then we would suspect the files you are using.

What is producing them? If they are from your webcam, or screen capture device, some files can also be a source of failure due to the encoding involved.

We would need to see the data from the files to see if this is the case using MediaInfo. A free download from the web. Use the text view to copy and paste the results here.

Files recorded with Skype have known issues.

Ray.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The rendering is being done by the CPU only. MEP 2020 does not support the Quadro 620 and the Intel HD 2500 is below the minimum spec for MEP.

errNo5 is usually associated with an issue with an object on the timeline - in this case the error would suggest is it an audio file.

Try exporting the project using Video as MPEG video option and watch the Movie time in the export dialog for if/when it crashes - this will tell you where the issue is on the timeline.

Is the L: drive an external USB drive?

Thanks John. I took your advice and exported the MTS as an MPEG then rendered the MPEG to DVD. Worked fine.

Puzzled, though. The MTS was 3GB but the MPEG was 30GB.

L:\ on my machine is a 4TB External Hard Drive.

Cheers
