Encoding problems related to codec pack install?

DNLuce wrote on 3/12/2014, 10:24 AM

I installed the K-Lite mega codec pack v. 10.3.0.0 in the hopes of expanding my encoding capabilities and options.  I use MEP 2014 plus at work and Pro X 6 at home.  I've since had problems encoding to mp4 or Quicktime mov. at work  I've uninstalled the codec pack at work as well as run a registry cleaner (CCleaner), but the problems persist.  During the uninstall I was prompted to close both MEP 2014 + and MS Outlook.  I clicked OK at the prompt thinking it meant, OK, I will close the programs.  In fact it was saying OK, the programs are closed, proceed with the uninstall.  So the uninstall may not have been flawless, and is why I checked for registry errors afterwards, and rebooted after that.

At home on Pro X 6, i WAS able to encode to mp4, but not to mov

I'm looking for insight or past experience with this situation.  I'm not 100% sure the two are related.

Hi

. . . . K-Lite mega codec pack . . .

IMHO and from 2 very bad experiences with them I would advise anyone never to install any of the 'All in One' codec packs.

. . . . I've uninstalled the codec pack at work as well as run a registry cleaner (CCleaner), but the problems persist . . .

That was part of my experience with the all in one packs. Once they messed up the computers, they stayed messed up.

Try running the MEP and/or VPX installers again and select the repair option if available or reinstall.

. . . . but not to mov . . .

Have you installed Quicktime and is it up to date?

With the mp4 export try turning off the Calculate video effects on GPU option on the export dialog if you are using it.

Yes, yes and it worked prior to this mega charley foxtrot

I'll try that, thanks.

Don't know whether or not this info is relevant but on the user forum for Adobe Audition one of the program's senior developers reported that Apple do not make a 64 bit version of Quicktime for Windows and hence it is "not available".  I wonder whether this affects the ability of VPX6 to export in mov format?

Good question.  My (limited) understanding of 64 bit programming is that it simply allows the program to utilize more of the computer's resources, e.g. memory.  Some programs won't benefit from 64 bit systems, hence, no 64 bit version.

I failed to mention in my original post that I previously was able to encode in mov format before K-Lite.  Also, my home system running Pro X 6 is 64 bit.  My work system running 2014 plus is 32 bit.  Currently, neither will encode into mov.

Hi David,

Perhaps there are still remnants of K-Lite that were not removed. Try removing with Revo Uninstaller. (You may find that you have to install K-Lite again before you can do so!)

Did my suggestion 2 weeks ago solve the issue?

Hi David,

Thanks for the prompt reply by PM. Sorry to hear the problem remains. (I'm unable to reply to the PM; I get a header '502 Bad Gateway' and a body with just 'nginx', whatever that means!)

If you haven't already done so, I'd suggest you submit a ticketed support request.
