Export movie Ration 4:5

jeesa2 wrote on 7/19/2021, 6:14 AM

Hi. I am trying to export my movie with a ratio of 4:5. It used to be 16:9 but I changed the movie settings. Now I get an error message that I have to adjust the ratio. But I only get the option 4:3 and I cannot change it to 4:5 even in the dropdown menu. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Hi

See this tutorial on setting aspect ratios - although it applies to 9:16 video, the principles are the same for 4:5 ratio.

Hi John.

Thank you so much. The issue is that I need to work on a project that is 16:9 and change it to 4:5. I can import it and it even shows the correct ratio but as soon as I try to export it I can only choose 4:3, 16:9 or 2.21. I cannot change it in the dropdown menu either. Thank you so much for your help!

Just set your Movie Settings (File>Settings>Movie...) to the 4:5 ratio eg width 800, height 1000, ratio 4:5 and framerate to match your source videos.

Now, go back to the timeline. You'll probably get that message: read it carefully, as it is alerting you to a difference between the movie setting and the preview monitor setting. Click "adjust". The monitor setting/shape will then change to the movie settings you just made.

Any 16:9 video on the timeline will be reduced in size to fit inside the 800 pixel width. You'll obviously lose video on the sides when producing your 4:5 ratio video (or you'll have letterboxing - black bars top and bottom).

To set up the selection area, click on the video, then go to "Effects>Camera/Zoom Shot" (it's in View/Animation). You can size the selection box to suit, and each time you do so, MEP will create a keyframe. You can run along the video a bit, then reposition the selection box, a new keyframe will be set, and the new area will be "front and centre" in your video.

Exporting is a cinch: just export as you normally would; notice that the Resolution, framerate and Ratio will match your movie settings. If you want, you can increase the resolution for a better quality export. Just click the three dots and input the width and height in exactly the same ratio as 4:5.

See how you go with that and come back if stuck.
