I try MAGIX Movie Edit Ver. 18 and I need export video with custom thumbnail "first frame in video" but after export I found thumbnail from middle video.
When you have done as John asked make sure you don't just close the box but use the OK button to close the dialogue box when you have chosen your frame.
The final size of the finished rendered video will depend on a lot of things.
The size and quality of the original video clips.
The selected video size of the export.
The quality settings of the export.
The codec used for the export.
Depending on the settings and expected quality of the exported video, an exported file for three minutes could be as small as 150MB but the quality won't be very good whereas an exported file that is several gigabytes may be so huge in data that it is difficult for anything to play the file back smoothly and won't look any better than the source material.
Using the editors presets normally gives the best balance between the two and your exported file size seems about right to me for three minutes.

I am curious if there was ever an answer for the preview frame (thumbnail) choice problem mentioned above. The interesting thing is the directions are spot on, I have used it before and it was fine. Now however no matter what I do the automatic option is always being used. Even though the selection for "take from video" and the chosen frame shows up when I go back to the movie;project settings window, but what the thumbnail windows explorer sees is still the auto chosen one. I have Movie Edit Pro Plus ver. 19.0.2.58 by the way.
Yes, I have tried the above 3 times and 2 different ways (moving to the thumbnail spot and selecting a pic for the thumbnail) and it ends up a black thumbnail everytime. Frustrating, as I'm trying to use it on a website, but it's just black. Must be a bug. Fixed yet?
. . . . moving to the thumbnail spot and selecting a pic for the thumbnail . . . black thumbnail . . . trying to use it on a website . . . .
The issue is still not fixed in the latest version
For web use, you have to create a separate custom thumbnail image, there are many different ways of doing this using a still image, or specify the 'poster' time in the HTML code. The embedded thumbnail is ignored.
How you add this depends on which program you are using to create the website.
Also is the Streamable option in MEP's export dialog Advanced settings also checked - if not do so this ensure the video will play almost immediately of being started in the browser.
Hi John. Tx for the reply. I'm using Wix, making a website for my brother's business. I'm not sure if Wix allows me to add HTML code, but I'll check. I don't see the "Streamable" option in MEP's export dialog "Advanced" settings. It seems my video on Wix plays w/o a problem or lag, but being better prepared is best!
Wix converts the video see here so there is no issue not having the streamable option.
Which export preset are you selecting, or is this a custom preset?
What is the program full name and version number as found under Help, About and which variant are you using - Basic (actually no designation), Plus or Premium?
Do note if you are using Soundtrack Maker to create background music this cannot be used commercially.
If you are using a music background track then you need either commercially licenced music, which may require a fee eg Royalty free, or music licenced under the Creative Commons licensing scheme - you need to check the licensing specific to the music - it may have restrictions or conditions eg author/creator must be credited, or the licence type quoted.
