Exported File Size larger in Movie Edit Pro 015 than Movie Edit Pro 17

Hi Folks,

For the last 4 years I have been using Movie Edit Pro 17. I recently upgraded my PC and decided to upgrade to Movie Edit Pro 2015 while I was at it. I have transfered all my old MEP 17 files from my old PC to my new PC, and when I open an old MEP 17 project in MEP 2015, I have the following problem.

When I was exporting as AVI in MEP 17, a 5 min video was rendering to approximately 2.5GB, however in MEP 2015 (with all the same export settings), the same project is rendering to around 25GB. This is way too big.

The only difference I can see in the export settings is the type of CODEC it's using.

Rez - 1910x1080

Frame Rate - 29.97

Ratio - 16:9

Interlace - Progressive.

Media - Video+Audio

Stero3D - Standard(2D)

The old PC was XP - Dual Core 2.66GHZ - 4GB RAM

The new PC is 8.1 - i7 3.6GHZ - 16GB RAM

Can someone tell me how to get the exported file size down to 2.5GB rather than 25GB?

Thanks for the help

Ray

Hi Ray,

"The only difference I can see in the export settings is the type of CODEC it's using."

Well, that's the most likely cause then, but you haven't shown us what respective codecs are being used!

Although you say both MEP 17 and 2015 otherwise use "all the same export settings", I'm betting you'll find that the difference in codecs makes other significant differences in other key parameters.

You need to expand the settings, make screenshots of both sets, and carefully look for differences. My example below is merely for illustration. I don't recall ever using AVI as an export type, but maybe these MEP 2014 settings are from a long-forgotten experiment.

I'd suggest you also examine the detailed audio settings too.

If the cause of the large change is still not obvious, then post your screenshots for us to examine.

Hi

. . . . The only difference I can see in the export settings is the type of CODEC it's using . . .

I agree with Terry  - the difference is the codec:-

      2m 26sec project exported from MEP 17             11.185GB

same clip exported from MEP2015                       11.185GB.

Both used the Intel IYUV codec identical settings 1920*1080 25fps.

Using the Cinepak codec I aborted the export from both as the file size was already bigger then above only a quarter of the way through rendering - so I would estimate the file size at ~ 45GB.

From testing the above project I would presume the 2.5GB file was exported from MEP17 using the Microsoft Video 1 codec in which case you need to use this codec in MEP2015.

The Microsoft RLE fails due to the video resolution.
