exporting looping video project

EMM wrote on 4/14/2022, 12:12 PM

Using Movie studio 2022 platinum, I have spliced the video project to loop from the end of the video to the beginning. It plays fine movie studio, however when I export it to mpeg it and execute it from there it does not loop to the beginning once the end is reached. I have tried various things. Please advise on how to export the video so it loops outside of movie studio.

@EMM

Hi and welcome to the forum.

. . . . I have tried various things. . . . .

What have you tried?

The setting for looping in the Project settings dialog is for looping playback of the timeline, when this option is not checked the timeline will play once then stop, it does not make an exported video file loop on playback in a media player.

For a standalone exported video file looping is controlled by the media player, not the video file.

Creating a DVD or Blu-Ray disc that has a single menu, for manual starting can be set to play as a loop as shown below - right click the menu item, indicated by the yellow arrow in the image below, and select Properties, the dialog on the left will open.

The DVD/BD player will then loop the video, once started, and will play in the loop until stopped.

John, Thank you for your feedback. Question for you, is there possibly an export feature to a .exe or other executable file available that will do the video looping?

Hi

. . . . an export feature to a .exe or other executable file available that will do the video looping? . . . .

if this is for a 'marketing' scenario, such as display screens seen in many businesses, stores etc where screens play video loops continuously, the software system that is driving the screens should provide the functionality to play and loop the video.

It is possible using - dare I say it (?) - using PowerPoint for which I know 2 methods:

Export to CD which can be played on any computer.

Use a 3rd party plugin such as iSpring, to create an executable which contains both the player and video.

@EMM Hi, a GIF will do that looping effect but it's not an option in MEP, @johnebaker I think it used to be though? i might be miss-remembering 👴🙃🤯😂

Hi

MEP did have the option to export GIFs, however when video became mainstream for web sites they fell out of favour, they tend to be used with messaging software now through 3rd party suppliers eg Giphy.

GIFs are impractical at long run times. Typically they run for less than 30 secs and still need some form of player.

@johnebaker Yep, GIMP will export as GIF, made a few for FB 👍 export video as image sequence but even if you reduce frame rate you still get loads of exported images,

johnebaker wrote on 4/16/2022, 6:02 AM

@Former user

Hi

Not sure where GIMP comes into this as it cannot import video directly, only video exported as a sequence of single frames.

@EMM wants a standalone 'looping video' or executable to run, presumably, on a supported system.

The PowerPoint method was one we used, many years ago, for creating 'slideshow+videos' for businesses that advertised their services in receptions, waiting rooms, shop fronts etc.

It may be useful to know what the intended file is to be used for.

If for a personal / business website then the feature would be enabled on the player side of the website.

Some hosting sites will also allow that feature but they are few.

If it is for say, an information screen at a museum, or for home use on a PC, that could set by the player settings, most of which have a loop setting.

Ray.
