Exporting Media Setting

Greetings,

This is a general enquiry about MEP that is not version specific.

When I get to the File / Export Movie point of editing and make a choice of format, some choices give the option of video and audio or just video whereas others don't, sprecifically MP4 (H.264) and HEVC.

I'm curious as to why this is. Any ideas? Or is it another quirk of MEP?

Hi Andy,

In MEP2021, I don't see any choices for "video and audio" just video, or just audio.

The video options always come with audio as far as I can see.

Hi Andy.

You used to get options using the main concept codec but I don't think it exists in MEP 2022.

AVI, MPEG Video, and WMV, still have various options but MP4 and HEVC as far as I'm aware have never had options within MEP.

I'm talking about the window that comes up after clicking on File / Export Movie and then, for example, Video as AVI

As I said, it's only really curiosity as why some containers can be exported with video only and some don't seem to be able to do that. I've come to the conclusion that it's a Magix thing.

It would be useful to export some videos that I edit (old 8mm film is a prime example) just as an H.264 or H.265 file without MEP creating an irellevant silent audio track.

Greetings Ray, there certainly hasn't been a video only option since MEP began to support MP4 as an export option a few moons ago.

I can only suppose there isn't a video only option with MP4 or HEVC because Magix feel there is not a call for it. But then I don't think that the changes to Size/position are necessary.

Maybe I should improve my schoolboy German.

More like several full solar eclipses ago 😀.

Certainly MEP has never offered the option to export MP4 as video only, it has always been video + audio.

Here is a screen shot from MEP 16 Plus taken today (running in a VM) and as you can see the media option is greyed out.

IIRC the h.264/AVC standard is video + audio (AAC or AC3) only.

Greetings John, it seems like only a comparatively few years since I contacted Magix support asking why an MEP MP4 export seemed to be of such poor quality.

A tech service person replied saying that they had a lot of problems programming for MP4 and advised me to continue using MPG or AVI.

Hard to believe these days. Frighteningly that must have been close on last century.
