Exporting video to ipad vs. burning into DVD

Pexi wrote on 3/10/2014, 2:27 PM

I have a problem with burning of DVD from the project. If I make an ipad film everything is ok. However, if I burd DVD from the same project, the final screen area becomes smaller (the edges of the film are cut away). Why and how can I avoid that? Many thanks in advance!

PS. There is a white box in the editors preview screen that equals to the size than the final DVD. The area outside of the white box  is included in the final exported ipad file.

Hi,

What size you export to iPad ? Normally iPad is 1920 x 1080 and use sometimes 1280 x 720 to fit my Samsung tablet without problem. If you have bars this indicate you create different size like 4:3 ratio movie. Check your movie if the ratio is 16:9 to fill the screen.

Hi

. . . . the final screen area becomes smaller (the edges of the film are cut away). Why and how can I avoid that? . . .

I suspect the DVD video will be correct and what you are seeing is an effect on the TV called Overscan - the TV does not show 100% of the video but can cut off anything from 2 - 10% of the image - the amount cut off depends on the TV older CRT TV cut off more than modern flat screens.

The white box you are seeing on the preview screen is showing you the overscan limits - there should be no titles or required action in the video outside this box - inside is the safe area.

If you have downloaded all the extras you should find you have a TV overscan project which you can burn to DVD and then play to see how much cutoff your particular TV is doing

I agree with John's diagnosis.

The overscan area can vary considerably between TVs, and between top, bottom, left and right. MEP's default is 10%, symmetrical, But in Effects > Effects settings movies >TV cropping you can set each of the 4 borders individually.
