External editing link through VEGAS with the Windows Store Editions

Hello,

I've recently obtained the Sound Forge Pro 14 Windows Store
Edition 64bit. Not sure why, but though I am able to access the Windows
Store App folders (already unlocked these), I still cannot use the feature of VEGAS PRO 17
(also Windows Store Edition 64bit) to edit directly in the Sound Forge (external
editor). I set the external editor app, but when trying to open the
Sound Forge using the right click on the audio track and selecting
"Open in Sound Forge", I get an error message:
The specified audio editor cannot be opened

Is there any workaround for that?

I can open the Sound Forge separately, though, but would like to be able to edit directly within Vegas. I am able to open any editor which is not the Windows Store app, like Melodyne or Audacity.

Richard

My system is Windows 10 64bit running at laptop LENOVO LEGION Y540-15IRH.

Intel Core i7-9750H 2.60

16 GB RAM

Nvidia RTX 2060

Welcome to the Magix Sound Forge forum @Richard-Pohl.

I am not familiar with SF Windows Store Edition. Is the Sound Forge (and Vegas) applications accessed over the internet, or are they installed locally on your PC? Where are the media files located?

Hi,

they are both installed locally. Windows Store Editions apps are all installed in hidden folders, which are possible to unlock. I did that and tried to link the Sound Forge in VEGAS (I navigated to the folder and found the executable file), but then would get the error message (although it seems the program sort of recognized it, as the Open in External Editor command in the menu changed to Open in Sound Forge).

Thanks for the welcome. I am quite a newbie to these programs, but loved using VEGAS for a year and decided to go for Sound Forge, too. I like the Windows Store Editions for I got them on sale and can use them legally at several machines at the same time (though as it seems, functionality is a bit stripped down - SF Windows Store Edition does not come with iZotope, for example).

Yes, that is the case as well when SF-Pro it is bungled in the VP-18 deal, the third-party plugs are not included

Yes, as I said, I linked the Audio Editor properly (after unlocking the Windows Store files, which are normally not accessible). So the Windows Store Edition is located in another place, though it is the same file Forge140.exe. I also tried to open it just from that hidden folder and it does not. Strangely, VEGAS does open through its hidden folder without problems. Maybe something different related to the Windows Store and not a problem of the program itself...

Another strange thing I noticed is also that although Interactive Tutorials are working, Contents and Index help links are not working (another thing which seems to be working in VEGAS Windows Store Edition, but not in Sound Forge Windows Store Edition).

Also, is there anywhere PDF manual available for download? I found some for version 12, but that one often just refers to the help inside the software (which is often missing in the Windows Store version).
