Failed installation of update

paul-watson wrote on 9/26/2017, 2:24 PM

I have (had) the following version of Movie Edit Pro on my computer: MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Plus, Version 16.0.4.119 (UDP3), UG Code 8426 KA4.

Yesterday I received a message that an important update to the software was available so I followed the instructions. It appeared to have downloaded the update just fine and was in the process of installing it. At that time a message displayed saying several files could not be updated because they were open or in use and to close them. I attempted to identify what may be open and closed as much as I could, but it appears I may have closed the installation itself. Now, the program will not launch at all. I am very worried that a major project I have been working on for two months may be lost. When I try to reinstall the program, I get a message saying a current or newer version of the program is already installed and it won't complete a reinstallation. Is it possible to remove the program and reinstall it WITHOUT losing my project? Thank you.

Hi

. . . . Is it possible to remove the program and reinstall it WITHOUT losing my project? . . . .

Assuming you did not change the location where MEP saves the project files, and the source materials for the project are also within your Documents folder, then uninstalling does not affect any of your project files.

No, I haven't changed anything with regard to the location of project files. The source materials all appear to be in the Documents folder. I see that some of the subfolders have "Magix" in the name, such as Magix Projects, but they won't be deleted during an uninstall, correct?

That is correct, it is only when the default location has been changed, as I have seen one user do some time ago, to place them within the program folder that issues could arise.

Thanks John.  I uninstalled just the program (not all of the other assorted supporting plug-ins, etc), and was able to reinstall.  The good news is that I believe my project files are intact.  The bad news is that the program is now full of a lot of error messages and unable to launch properly.  I have a help ticket in with support and hope to hear from them soon.  The errors are as follows:

"Error while renaming C:\Users\xxxxxxx\Documents\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro Plus\AudioTemp\001Buzz000.HDP in C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro Plus\2017\NoisePrintSamples\001Buzz#48kHZ.HDP !        Reason: File already exist!"

"Cannot open file..."  References 001Buzz#48kHZ.WAV

"Sorry, Internal Error!  No FilePointer in MovePosition    File: PRIM.CPP   Line 1542"

"Sorry, Internal Error!  Page not written in FreeAllPagesForSI   File:  PRIM.CPP    Line:  1897"

"Sorry, Internal Error!  WritePosition in WritePage   File:  PRIM.CPP   Line:  1802"

Any suggestions on fixing these?

Hi

. . . . my project cant find "arrow_05.cfx" tI have found the file, but when using "directory" wont accept it . . . .

What is the next error message after you point MEP to the correct directory?

Does the arrow effect work if you skip the error message and then add the arrow back in again once the project has loaded?

@SullyPanda76us

Arrow_06.cfx is supposed to be located in

C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro Premium\2018\OverlayFX\Pointer

and there should also be an arrow_06.tga to go with it. Make sure that they are in this folder.

Hi

@browj2

. . . . C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro Premium\2018\OverlayFX\Pointer . . .

This folder does not exist on my PC after upgrading MEP 2017 to 2018.

The folder location is

C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro Premium\2017\OverlayFX\Pointer\ . . . .

@SullyPanda76us

Can post a screenshot of the error message(s)?

On mine I deliberately moved the arrow_05.tga and arrow_05.cfx to another location. The first thing asked for on reloading the project was the .tga image, once pointed to this the .cfx loaded as well.

Thanks

@johnebaker

Thanks for pointing to the correct folder. I had 2017 trial on my computer and I don't think that I ever uninstalled it. There is no trace of it that I can find and in its place under ....Movie Edit Pro Premium is 2018. My 2 day trial has since expired.

I think that option is missing from "templates"...

the option does exist in menu effects > design elements > backgrounds

but it takes nowhere...

Also, i have mixed spanish with German!

johnebaker wrote on 9/28/2017, 5:31 AM

Hi

Assuming you have downloaded and installed all the free extras - on your menu they are under Objetos.

Alternativately scroll down the templates pane towards the bottom as shown below

. . . . the option does exist in menu effects > design elements > backgrounds . . . .

Looks like this a bug.

Good news, I'm back in business.  After removing and reinstalling a couple of times the program was nearly fixed with the exception of a few error messages, and then support suggested patching the software with the update again via Help > Update online.  That finally resolved everything and no more error messages.  One thing that still does periodically pop up is the message to update the software and I did it once, but realized it is the same update I have already done.  I don't know how long that will keep popping up, but everything is good now.  Thanks for the feedback and tips.
