Do you think it would be possible to choose which media player opened a finished project after exporting a video?
It's possible to chose audio editing or photo editng programs.
My version of Windows Media player will not play any HEVC files at the end of exporting a conversion or in fact play any HEVC file at all. All I get is the audio in Wndows Media Player, but VLC media player has no trouble at all playing such files.

MEP uses the default player set for the file format.
However there is an issue, if I set VLC as the default for mp4/MP4 and export a h.264 mp4, MEP launches VLC and plays the video, however if I export as HEVC, MEP does not launch VLC, VLC does launch if I double click the exported file !!!

That's the same behaviour I'm getting with Windows Media Player except Windows Media Player can't play HEVC at all whereas VLC can. Does this have anything to do with HEVC having to be bought I wonder?
I didn't realise that MEP would use the default player of certain files. Thank you for that piece of information. I'm loath to keep setting defaults from basic setup as I get used to the icons showing, and sometimes setting different defaults causes other unforeseen problems along the line. I know you have warned against adding codec packs to windows in the past so I wonder if there is a solution? I can, of course, open the file after in whatever player can handle the file but I like the file playing upon completion.

I suspect that you have an old version of WMP, mine (Windows 10) plays HEVC with no problem,and the issue I have is MEP does not launch it after finishing the export.
I suspect that the MEP HEVC export has been set not to launch anything.

Yes, I'm on Win 7. I will have to upgrade at some point when support for Win 7 finishes but I know my way around Win 7 quite well so it looks like I'll have to put up with the media player problem for now. I prefer VLC for some things but it's a small annoyance and not really debilitating. Thank you for your insights, John. Always helpful.
