File Size Variations when re-saving the same video project

Hubert22 wrote on 1/19/2019, 8:07 AM

When I open a project A (either double-clicking or loading MEP and using Open function) and then immediately re-save it under a different name (Save Project As...) B, the filesize of B in Explorer is quite different from that of A! If I then re-open (whether I exit or not) the newly-saved project B and re-save it under a new name C, the filesize reverts to the original filesize of A! I then re-open this new file C and save again under another name D, the filesize reverts to the precious one of B. So the filesizes of A C E G are alike, as are the filesizes of B D F H

As an example for a project named "Test Video-13 mins":

Name              Size KB         Date modified          Time modified

Test Video-13 mins.MVP            291.29              19.01.2019              14:13:14

xTest Video-13 mins.MVP         492.84              19.01.2019              14:15:35

xxTest Video-13 mins.MVP         291.25              19.01.2019              14:16:58

xxxTest Video-13 mins.MVP            492.85             19.01.2019              14:17:21

xxxxTest Video-13 mins.MVP            291.26              19.01.2019              14:18:32

xxxxxTest Video-13 mins.MVP            492.85              19.01.2019              14:18:53

xxxxxxTest Video-13 mins.MVP           291.26       19.01.2019       14:19:18

Any ideas why this is happening? (It does not happen with MEP 2017).

Hi

Which version of MEP are you using - see under Help, About for the program full name and version number ?

I cannot replicate this with MEP Premium v 18.0.2.225.

It is MEP 2014 Plus, Version 13.0.5.5 (UDTP).

BTW, I have run the same saves on a different PC - and it performed correctly there! Same version of MEP 2014, similar PC - only difference is that the operating system is Windows 10 Home, version 1803 (while the other PC ran Windows 10 Pro, version 1709). Curious!

The Project files are located on an external drive (with Allocation unit size 4096 bytes). So the cluster size would be identical between the two machines since I just plug the drive into whichever PC I am using..

@Hubert22

Thanks for the information.

I'm just having thoughts about how this could occur.

It may just be a Windows reporting type of thing. I notice similar behaviour when cleaning up hard drives when using Disk Cleanup. The reported amount of storage space gained vs used space never tallies after the action completes on my machine but once my PC has been shut down and restarted it does. No idea why.
