I have been using the free version of Music Maker, I just purchased the premium 2019. Do I need to down load it again or can I get an activation code and use my serial number to activate it through the software I have?

You should get an activation code/license number with your purchase (check email and junk filter).
You do not need to download MM again, just input the activation code.
You do might need to download additional content (soundpools, instruments, options etc) as provided by the activation.
If you got the music maker editon from in-app-store it is already activated automatically (no need for a serial number). If you got it from any other place like the magix software or other shops in the internet you have to unlock the music maker by using the activate edition button.
