getting my software to work

I recently purchased vegas pro 19 I downloaded the software and it seemed to work then I started getting error messages. I thought I down loaded wrong I waited a few weeks before I tried it again, I found the down load letter and repeated the process. This time I was asked for the serial number I entered the number from my email and was told I had the wrong number. I've had vegas pro from .15 to 18 and have had no problem. Please help
