Google Earth map no longer accessible in Travel Route Animation?

paul-watson wrote on 8/21/2017, 8:05 PM

I loaded the trial version of Magix Movie Maker Pro 2017 and started a project this past week.  One of the early things I did was to create a Travel Route Animation and it permitted me to select Google maps.  Now, whenever I go back into the program, I can no longer select Google Maps for any other Travel Route Animations.  I have since paid for and downloaded the full version, but I still am unable to select Google Maps as the background.  Is there something I am missing?  Why did it work once, and now I don't seem to be able to find it as an option anywhere?  As a side note, the original Travel Route I created with Google Maps still works fine - I just cannot repeat the process to create other maps using Google Maps.    I'm running this on an HP Envy PC with Windows 10 installed.

Hi

. . . . Travel Route Animation and it permitted me to select Google maps . . . .

What is the full name and version number of MEP as found under Help, About . . . ?

The TRA uses OpenStreetMap for its map sources and there is no option, to use Google maps.

The only options to change the map, are to add overlays as shown below

I'm obviously curious to know how/why the program permitted me to create one with google maps previously!

Hi

Good question.

I have been using Movie Edit Pro since version 11 and, in all the versions I have had, they have used Openstreetmap.

Well I'm going to speculate that it may have been some kind of a fluke with their trial version that allowed it once and then dropped it out of the menu. Strange. Thanks for weighing in with your experience.

paul-watson wrote on 8/24/2017, 1:48 AM

Good news - after tinkering with the program I was able to find out how I did it.  If you click your waypoints onto the map manually rather than typing them in by name, you will then see an option at the top to select Google Maps, as well as a couple of other options.  Once you select one, you can then open the overlays menu and you'll see more options, including Google Maps, Google Earth and more.   Make your selection and you're off and running!

Thanks for your tenacious tinkering and feedback!

That's a new feature to me and I'll try it next time I useTRA. Although I include a lot of mapping content in my family holiday videos, I've not normally used TRA, staying with GE itself, captures with FRAPS, plus some GM and Memory-Map and other improvised stuff.

Hi

Where is this option - can you post a screen shot of it please?

The option does not show up here, same version number as yours except not trial, only the overlays as I posted previously.

@johnebaker

Hi John.

If you open MEP TRA and manually set a waypoint and then select, top menu, "Options",

this appears:

However, very interestingly, I had first tried the procedure in VPX and the option to select Google Maps was not present.

When I discovered it was available in MEP I then decided to go back to VPX to create some further screenshots to show its absence. Guess what? The option is now available in VPX!!!

Thanks Jeff, that is what I did and no Google Maps, OpenTopoMap or BingMap as you can see below, same with VPX.

MEP is version 16.0.4.119 and VPX 15.0.4.171

Confirmed for VPX. It was not there the first time, then I reopened it and the 3 selections appeared. However, I was not able to actually get Google Maps. Jeff, did you get Google Maps? Look at the lower left. I selected Google but still had OpenStreetMap.

And now the logging-out bug has struck again. I had written a full reply and it was lost when I attempted to post it!!!

My versions of MEP and VPX are identical to John EB.

I opened MEP, used the TRA, and Google maps were not there, opened VPX, same procedure, and they were!! Closed and reopened both and the situation was reversed!

I discovered the way to get Google maps to actually be used if they were available; after ticking the Google maps box, also tick the Map selection box and the drop-down included various Google maps!

Oh the joys (and foibles) of Magix software!!

Got it. I went back in, no Google or Bing maps, went out, went in, there they were. Got Google Satellite. It is probably a work in progress.
