Green Hue on Sequence showing in MEP

Xenofex2 wrote on 1/19/2015, 3:56 PM

Just looking for some advice regarding a short movie sequence that has been recorded on an iPhone although not sure that is relevant.

There are no problems with the playback of the sequence within the VLC program. However when I go to look for the sequence in the Media Pool in MEP 2015 there is a green glow throughout the sequence. (See attached image)

Even making a copy of the original sequence outside of MEP sees the resultant copy play again without problems in VLC, but within MEP, a green glow.

I've never had to make a colour correction before to a sequence that runs ok normally and would appreciaate some advice please.

Having now 'slept' on this, I am starting to wonder if my problem originated in the VLC program instead. The sequence normally plays in portrait mode and I used their 'help' to try and find how to rotate the image. I am wondering if instead of rotating the 'whole image' - it still though plays in portrait' mode without problems using VLC - that it has somehow rotated a colour layer which has resulted in the sequence now seen in the screen shot.

Think I will try and find the original sequence that had been sent to us by email (or ask the sender to send again hopefully) and start again without rotating in VLC.

Hi,

If you can upload a small example to a host (I use Dropbox) we could try it.

Terry,

I also use Dropbox and have just put a short clip of the sequence into a new folder, but, how then do I send you a link inviting you to view/access? I thought I needed an email address and cannot see how I can just do a general invite.

Just a further update on this all. My daughter has just sent us another copy. As before, plays alright in VLC, but open it within MEP and there is again the green hue. So obviously it seems that it was not anything I did in VLC trying to rotate.

Might be now something to do with the source - the iPhone??? Think I will need to submit a help request to Magix.

Hi George,

You should have one or two entries like this in your Explorer right click context menu:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4019461/Dropbox-Link.jpg

Or open your Dropbox account in your browser and do it that way.

If you've placed it in a folder other than \Public then the r-click menu looks like this:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4019461/Dropbox-Link-NonPublic.jpg

(How have you been sharing your Dropbox files previously?)

Paste the link in your post.

However, I expect we will get the same result as you, as it does indeed seem like a corrupted file.

Hi

This was (is?) a known issue with iPhone video which appears when video from an iPhone is played in Quicktime or Windows Media Player.

Try playing the video clip with Quicktime - I suspect you will find the green is there too.

If it is then your only option is to try to convert the file to another format - this can be done in VLC using File, Convert - I would suggest converting to .TS format H.264 + mp3 as a starting point, then import this into MEP.

You may need to play around with different conversion settings.

Hi

Sadly it now looks like John is right. My daughter had sent us another short movie sequence last night of the grandchildren, and just testing it today in MEP, there is also a green hue.

At least I know it was nothing I did.

Thanks for all your help and advice, will now try my hand at the conversion suggestions,

George

I just thought I would post an update and just some general information that I thought was of interest.

I did look within VLC (but could not easily see how to convert video) and then googled online but there are so many out there it was difficult to see what was safe. I then decided to raise a support ticket with Magix, highlight my issue, and obtain their recommendation for a safe video converter. I have just received a reply, as follows.

' That said, it might be correct what you have been told that the video source files you're currently dealing with are a little problematic, but that's also definitely something we are trying to address on our end, to make the software as compatible with as many cameras and sources as possible. Thus we do keep track of such problems and pass the problematic files on to our developers. Maybe you can provide a sample file as well.'

I have now forwarded my file. I thought somewhat comforting to read and Magix added that this issue might be addressed in a new update that they are currently testing internally.

Just one further thing. as to a safe video converter, they suugested ....

'You might want to try the popular free video converter software Handbrake:

https://handbrake.fr/

This way you're definitely getting a fully-functional option from a reputable and secure source. Use it to transcode those files into regular MP4 files (with the same video properties as the source files).'

Yesterday, Magix issued a patch that amongst other things solved my issue of the green hue on the imported video.

So all is well

@George,

Thanks for the heads-up about the update. I just downloaded it and some of my problems seem to have been resolved. I'm on to trying out the speed next.
