Harmonies

When I sing a 3 sec. vocal, I try to apply harmonies to it (high or low) but It never works for this newbe. Should I just copy vocal and adjust pitch for another track?

Sorry, but it's not clear what you're trying to say here. Are you trying to "apply harmonies" during, or after, recording, and how are you going about it? We need details.
