Help! Help, Please!!!In Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus, we cannot burn a complete DVD.

We have Magix Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus, and are having a terrible time burning a DVD. We are running Windows Vista. I have read everything I can on this site, and on the internet about Magix burning problems - we have downloaded all the fixes, updates, etc. that we can. We tried exporting video to a Magix Video, (that took almost 2 days) and then dropping it back into a new timeline. That was the best we have done - with it almost burning everything but one section in which the video was black, but we could still hear the audio. We found that section, re-exported it, put it back in, and still no luck. Every time we try to burn it, it comes out with only the menu, and when we hit play, it will play the first few seconds of the movie, then stop. All the scenes do show up on the scene selection in the menu, though. We also tried exporting it as a MPEG-2 file. My 13 year old is the videographer - I am fairly decent at figuring things out on the computer, but there is a lot of things I don't completely understand on Magix. We have had it come up saying there are blank spaces on the movie, and have to choose to ignore those or not - my son says he has fixed this problem, though, and there are no blank spaces now. Also, when you go to burn a DVD, do you choose Encode, or Use, or Use All? We have tried Use and Use All with the same results. We have been struggling with this for weeks - I posted on the help forums, and received no reply. Thanks so much in advance for any help you can give.

Hi

A few questions first:

What is your computer specification?

Please give details of Processor type and speed, memory installed, hard disc drive space and how much free, whether you are using an external hard drive, which Antivirus is installed

How long is the movie you are creating?  2 days for an mxv is very slow.

The symptoms you are describing would indicate one or more of several problems because the computer is obviously struggling eg, through other programs running,  virus(es), insufficient disc space, an inordinately long movie,

John

Thanks so much for answering! (somehow I missed your reply) I have a Dell Inspiron 530, Intel core Duo CPU, E4500 @2.20 GHz, 4.00 GB RAM, 32 bit operating system, running Vista. We use AVG Anti-Virus, we do have an external hard drive, the movie (it's an edited video of a piano recital) is about an hour long. total size on C: hard drive is 288 GB, and space free is 24.1 GB. On our external hard drive , total size is 465 GB, and space free is 62.1 GB. We are using the main hard drive for Magix, and the external to store pictures and videos. Two days ago, we started burning a DVD again (without exporting as a different type of file this time) we have chosen "Encode All" (a Magix person told us to do this). I started the burning process Monday afternoon. It is Wed. night, and it is still on step 1 of 6, with 47:40:30 remaining, only about 8 of the little blue columns are colored in on the bar, and then it says Encoding Movie 1, with 9:45:28 remaining, and then it says Mixing Down... and that bar looks like it's about 3/4 of the way colored in.  I have shut down every process I can on Vista, and given priority to Magix, changed our screen resolution, etc. and it is still very very slow. Actually, slow is an understatement. (I found a site that told me how to speed up Vista, and did everything on there that I could do without being afraid I would crash our computer.) Thanks so much for your willingness to help! My son is about to go bonkers over this. I haven't let him use the computer for anything else to give more power to Magix.

Have you tried finishing the movie to the hard drive as opposed to the disk and using a 3rd party software to author the file to the disk? Also can you tell me the actual size of the movie (in Gigs)? Also check to ensure that there are no gaps between video segments on the timeline.

Can you explain how to finish the movie to the hard drive, and what type of 3rd party software would you recommend? How would you do this?  The file is 1.98 megabytes. Our computer crashed with a damaged OS, and we are all fixed and back, and tried again. We chose encode all, and this time it burned in about 16 hrs, but parts of the video are missing, while the audio is there.

I know I'm late at throwing out an answer/suggestion for this and don't know if you've already gotten a fix but if I am reading this correctly, it appears lynns is saying she has her videos and pix on an external drive. I know that is a big No-No with MEP and could be the reason for the excessive slow speed. The video filea need to be recorded to a folder that is on a hard drive INSIDE the computer and the file being created during the burn routine also needs to be on the drive inside the computer. After you have burned your project, you can export the file to the external hard drive for archiving, but you will need to copy it back to the internal drive if you ever want to burn the project again. I also believe you can't record or process video files via a network drive.

And if memory serves me, you also need about 16 to 18 GB of HD space for the program to have enough space to process the project.

Greg I myself have magix movie edit pro 15, we all have had the same problem, the mix down with all machines is different I have tried myself 1. avi video on hard drive 2. Drag and drop to time line. 3. selected video set as project video settings: User Defined. in time line screen went to file export movie to mp4, 4. sometimes  getting the warning of project has differnt resolution to export movie. 5. Changed movie settings to the same as what it needs to be. Mixing down a 2 hour movie takes days. further more opening up task manager while mixing down movie. Magix Process is sometimes Running then Not Responding then running again. Been told to try exporting the demo, tried that........... same thing, been told PC is too new to run old software, tried moving it to differnt systems. Same mixdown problems.................... The only thing I have seen dne well would be some of the tech geek magix movies on youtube but yet they don't respond to questions.

It needs to be answered clearly..... The question: Why does magix movie edit pro 15 take too long to mix down a movie being exported when video file is on hard drive, project and software is on hard drive, no other programs are running while mixing down, and MAGIX INC. is physically impossable to get ahold of unless you want to $$$PAY$$$ for support.  Anyway Specs for my PC are:

Magix Movie Edit Pro 15

OS: Winodws 7 Pro

System: Toshiba Satelite P755D

Processor: AMD A6-3400M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 1.40 GHz

RAM: 8GB (7.48GB usable)

64-bit Operating System

Hard Drive: 1 TB (704GB usable, free)

Avast Anti Virus
