High pitched whine/buzz when recording from USB mixer

Hi, I'm using Magix Music maker 17 Premium on a Win 7, 64 bit machine with 8 gig ram and can run the program withoput any issues at all..

I have just purchased a Gear4music MIX02AU mixer with USB to record vocals. I've tried a few of mics: Shure SM58, Shure SM7B and an Audio Technica AT871R, a mix of dynamic and condensor. The mixer had phantom power for the condensor mics and I'm very familiar with mixers and mics etc.

If I try a voice recording I get a high pitched whine/buzz regardless of what mic and/or gain/output when using the mixer, the levels are fine but the whine persists. It sounds like an interference and is not feedback, I've looked at all the settings in Windows and all is correct with the only recording device set to the USB mixer, I've also tried adjusting the input level but it still whines/buszzes. I've also adjusted the settings in Magix recording devices.

I've tried  the same setup with Ableton Live 8 and Cubase  5 and neither of these programs have the same problems. I've also tried a Logitech webcam input for mic duties and although the audio is not good enough the sound is clear without the whine/buzz ...

Can anyone help pleas? Thanks!

Hi,

What are your "program" settings under the "import" and "audio/midi" tabs?

A screen shot would be good.

Fixed!

The problem was with Windows input/output devices still being enabled regardless of the settings in 'Sounds'.

I disabled every device and then turned on only the output first follwed by the recording device, now all I need to do is eq the micer for better voice reproduction..

Hi Strider,

Fantastic,  I could tell that you knew what you were doing so that is why I asked the questions that I did.  I can't claim any credit for helping you solve the problem because you clearly did it on your own.

What a thrill to solve it yourself.  By the way, your list of hardware (especially your michrophones) is very impressive.  Feel free to ask any other questions that you may have.

Good luck and good editing,

George

Hi, I'm having the same problem with the MIX02AU, I was wondering if you could please explain how you fixed the issue?
