How can I get Sony DCR-HC40E to work with Winodows 7?

"I have just tried to load a movie from my Sony DCR-HC40E digital camera onto my Movie Edit Pro 14 PLUS program. I get an error message saying that the program doesn't recognise the camera. Apparently the camera is not compatible with Windows 7, the system I have on my new computer. Unless this can be rsolved it renders the camera, the software, or both useless. Does anybody know of a solutio to this problem?"

The problem is Firewire and Win7, and it has been answered many times on this forum. Use the "Search"  and write  "win7 dv" as keyword, I got 86 results.

Rankamateur,

How are you connecting the camera to your computer? A web search suggests 'Firewire' must be used for video, and that the USB connection is for downloading still images. Have you tried capture using Windows Movie Maker?

For some cameras it is unfortunatly necessary to use the software supplied by the camera maufacturer to capture your video. After you have the files on your hard drive you should be able to edit with MEP.

A different issue... MEP14 might have Win7 problems particularly if you are running in 64bit mode. I'd suggest downloading the free demo version of MEP17+ and see if that helps. The program is IMHO vastly better than 14 and you'll be better equiped for high definition.
