How can I get to show a movie image as icon on Movie file

Xenofex2 wrote on 9/26/2017, 2:10 PM

Not a MEP issue but just wonder whether anyone has any suggestions as to how I can get an image from the movie showing as the file/movie icon (like the first clip in the screenshot) rather than the VLC traffic cone
logo that now shows (for remaining movies as per screenshot). The first movie clip though actually came from my camera, whereas the other six ‘cones’ represent movies put together and edited with MEP.

Right click into Properties to change the icon does not appear available. I have googled my question and it appears I may need to download a program, but am wary of downloading from the internet without double
checking.

I use Windows 10, MEP Premium version 17.0.1.130 and use the Videolan, VLC program to play back my family movies that I now export from MEP as an mpeg.

I would welcome any suggestions please.

George

Hi George

There is no setting in the MPG export dialog to set the icon to display as a frame from the video, and Windows 10 does not support the mpg file format, so as VLC is the default player for mpg files its icon is displayed.

Is there any reason why you are exporting as mpg, if you export as mp4, which can be played using almost any player, the displayed icon is a frame from the video.

Actually there is no reason.

I used to export as 'Quicktime', only because not knowing anything about video formats, it was a format I recognised. Because I now know that 'Quicktime' is now not supported, I just chose mpeg as I thought that was for me another recognisable format.

But thankyou once again John, I will now use mp4 and see if I can revisit the movies already completed to re-export, this time as mp4.

A post-script. Brilliant thankyou. Just re-exported my last project as mp4 and have a display icon, as you said, from the movie.
