Hi

AVI is not a video format - it is a container file which may have any video/audio codec inside - you need to find out what these are.

Use GSpot or MediaInfo to analyse the video to find out what is in it - you probably do not have the correct codec installed.

GSpot has the ability to try to render the video and will tell you if this is possible (the buttons are bottom left of the program window.
