Top menu, File, Settings, Movie. Select the tab "Project settings." At the bottom, click on the radio button "Use preview image from movie." Scroll along until you find the image that you want. That's all.
You should probably look at my tutorial on getting started in MEP under Tutorials tab in this forum.

Thanks for your help... In the project settings and preview, I tried the 2 options using a JPEG pic and the still frame but for whatever reason, it just doesn't work. I keep getting an error message about proxy rendering...!!!
After 2 years and the latest version downloaded, I still don't have an answer for this "Movie Setting" problem... the program always select "Automatically select preview image" regardless of what I click on... I wish I could use the "Use preview image from movie" option but no luck so far... frustrating !
. . . . . . . . After 2 years and the latest version downloaded . . . . . . .
I initially tested on Movie Edit Pro Premium - which worked fine. This version is the latest download and is sometimes referred to as Movie Edit Pro 2017, however there is no year designation now in the product name.
I can replicate the problem in MEP 2015.
The bug in MEP 2015 is unlikely to be fixed, there are no more updates for it and I suspect it is now out of support having been superceded by 2 newer versions.
