How do I repair MM 2013 Premium without having to deinstall and reinstall?

mert wrote on 2/15/2013, 9:00 PM

Error code 6: Program could not be started.

I tried reinstalling, but it says it has a later version. Reinstalled the upgrade, but it still won't start. I don't want to have to deinstall, and then reinstall - that's time consuming. Isn't there a reapir utility to fix the installation?

I'm using Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron ONE2330.

Hi

Welcome to the forum.

The repair 'utility' is the program installer.  Run the installtion again and select Repair . . .

However before you run the installer again try this:-

Try resetting Music Maker by searching for MusicMaker.ini file using Windows Explorer you may find several - the one you want will be the largest in size.  Then either rename it or delete it.

Yours will be located somewhere like this and is a hidden folder - so you will need to turn on Show hidden folders in Windwos Explorer under Organize, Folder and Search options, View tab

C:\Users\Your user name\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\Music_Maker_Version

Start MMM and a new ini file will be created and test if the problem still persists.

Thanks, John. I should have mentioned that I tried the repair feature to no avail. I also deleted the .ini files and still get the same error. If there are no other solutions, I would have another question before removing adn reinstalling. Is there anything special I should do in order to retain my preferences?

Thanks again for your prompt reply!

Hi Ken

The preferences are stored in th ini file I mentioned before.  I think it is better to make anote of the settings then change them once you have re-installed.

The one thing to do after un-installing is to run the Magix cleaner before re-installing. The cleaner tool is available here

If you are using the download version, get a new download then, if you can, disconnect from the Internet, disable your Antivirus and proceed with the install.

If you have the disc version it may be worth contacting Magix, there may be a problem with the disc.

Thanks a lot, John. Worked perfectly! Just a pain in the neck to have to wait through the entire download and installation process.

Again, thank, sir!
