I have used Magix to do a great deal of audio but i want to record video as well. It keeps saying i need the MPEG 2-Codec from MainConcept. Where do i get this?
The Main concept codec was supplied free to earlier versions of the program. Either Vegas Movie Studio 17 or Movie Edit Pro 2021 or VPX 12 had the Main Concept set of codecs. Newer versions no longer have the Main Concept codec supplied and there is no way I know of to get it. I have no idea why this is no longer available except it is possible that Main Concept increased the price they charged Magix to have access to it for their users and Magix found the price hike too high. Certainly the price for individual licence use on the Main Concept website has increased dramatically.
I think the new version of the Main Concept Wrapper is a lot different from what was on offer previously and may be the reason for the price difference but I don't know.
I'm confused as to what you mean by your statement. What program are you using and what for?
Are you trying to import video from your Black Magic camera? You should check the Black Magic for answers. That may only be possible with DaVinci Resolve.
Thanks for the note. I’m trying to make recorded videos using my camera and it just keeps saying I need that Codec. It’s Magix 2016 and I also tried the Magix Video on a trial but same issue
I'd investigate downloading your videos using the software that came with the camera (if any). The video may then end up in a format that MEP 2016 will accept. "Main Concept" is a company, and there are various Main Concept codecs. Installing the camera's software may also install the codec required to open your video files.
If it is Movie Edit Pro 2016 it should have come with the Main Concept Codec package but it has to be downloaded separately from the Help section of the program. The images below are from VPX 12 but should also apply to MEP 2021 and earlier versions. It still shows ready for download in my program.
Once downloaded you have to change from using the Magix set of codecs to the Main Concept set as shown in my last image. It is possible that if you have a new Black Magic camera that this old version of the Main Concept codecs may not work. Of that I am not sure. The top end Black Magic cameras should come with a user key to unlock the full version of DaVinci Resolve which should have the new version. If it is one of the smaller Black Magic cameras the free version of DaVinci Resolve should work as those cameras do not have the same dynamic ranges of their larger counterparts or the ability to record at the higher bit rates.
Do you mean that you are trying to use a video camera like a webcam to record video to a computer? If so, then why don't you just record normally with the camera, put the files on your hard drive and use them in MEP?
